Just a little reminder such a country exists in the UK smile

Chewbacca, our flat was attached to the town hall, that bloody clock ?, Dance on Saturday night, Market every week, court held at the back, a newsagent opposite which opened at 6am and the fresh fish shop just a few downs from them so the fish was brought in VERY early hours, but I loved it. Yes I worked in The Royal Oak

Gunge? Gauge!

Anniebach Mon 12-Jun-17 22:33:34

It's in Rhayader Jalima, approx half way between the towns we have just spoken of,

Chewbacca Mon 12-Jun-17 22:33:14

You were a receptionist at The Royal Oak annie? Well I never! And one of my friends had a little flat near the town hall too. Her living room was always flooded with a ghostly green light from the town hall clock! Don't suppose you remember when the single gunge railway ran right through Welshpool do you? It ran along the back of my house. I was christened in St Mary's Church. grin

It's a lovely area, we must re-visit some time soon!

Is the Red Kite feeding station near there or is that nowhere near?

Hi welshmaiden, I am in Powys too.

Was born in Glamorganshire , moved to Breconshire, married, husband was in police force , first posting was Welshpool, we loved it, lived in a flat next to town hall. Shopped in Newtown , was sad to leave but we went to Brynmawr , now in Gwent but was in .powys. Then moved to Brecon.

Oh Welshpool and Newtown , do write more, I was showing my elder granddaughter 'weatherman walking' today ,Derek was in Welshpool, I felt so nostalgic seeing the town again, St,Mary's Church , The Royal Oak, I was a receptionist there

Chewbacca Mon 12-Jun-17 22:01:52

Hi welshmaiden, I'm from Welshpool.

My grandpa sang it to my fsther, they sang it to me, I sang it to my children and my grandchildren , it is so beautiful . And I have always sung it when Wales loses in the six nations

So for those who love it as I do enjoy, those who cry? Just look at the photographs of my beloved Gower ?

BBbevan Tue 16-May-17 16:14:42

My DD had a male voice choir at her wedding. But no Myfanwy as it makes her cry. We had that counting goats one ( sorry don't know the name) to exit the church.
Lovely

Anniebach I don't envy you on the beach and near the sea in Wales best rain, even if it was our beautiful Gower...

Pippa000 you are experiencing 'hiraeth' - the longing for Wales....

BBbevan Tue 16-May-17 06:39:20

We had buckets of rain too. Annie we are opposite the Gower, I could have waved to you. ?

Pippa000 Tue 16-May-17 06:38:14

Back in Cyprus after 5 months in Wales,(a long story which I will not bore anyone with, but it included several doctors and hospitals for DH and myself) I am already missing Wales, and of course the family and GC, thank goodness for Skype, see you Wales in August.

Anniebach Mon 15-May-17 22:51:43

I was tramping around Gower today, I love the place but today it was cold and wet.

Still beautiful though. I didn't have time to go along Worms Head

SparklyGrandma Mon 15-May-17 22:44:41

Well I love it. Returned after 60 years away. We have had nothing but lovely welcomes from everyone we have met. Beautiful country, lovely people and at the moment no rain.
