Sleeping arrangements!

Diddy1 Yes, the first time I stayed in a Scandinavian home, there were two single duvets, rolled up like 'sausages' side by side. Looked so tidy and inviting.

I'd probably fold mine in half lengthwise, though, to make a smooth surface on the bed.

I sleep on the window side and invariably DH opens the window when he goes to bed and I nearly shut it again before I settle down!

Two beds or separate rooms.

We use a double duvet, 10.5 tog, and only recently changed from 3 tog. I always used to be the cold one with icy feet. But now , I am always too warm, so between 2 and three in the morning, I throw off my duvet half and pull up a very lightweight fleece throw. Now DH is still nice and cosy, and I am warm but not hot.

My problem is not being cosy in bed. It is when the air in the bedroom is cold. My husband likes a cold bedroom and I am the opposite. My nose gets really cold and I keep waking up if I put my head under the covers.

With me it is my head mostly, so I put on a hat at about 3am.

DH and I bought two single beds that we pushed together and had separate duvets....I put a bedspread on the top so it looked like one bed......I was accused of breathing on him,being on his side of the bed and tacking all the duvet plus snoring when we shared a double bed and duvet ......the fact that most of the night I was awake, sleeping on the edge on the bed with no duvet was apparently all lies!

We have 2 single duvets and we are now both happy.

Get a silk duvet: 2.5 tog but so light you hardly know it is there. Good for winter and summer as it lets the air flow. Silk is a wonderful material.

I purchased a wonderful Duvet a couple of years ago.
One half was 3.5 tog and the other about 10.5, perfect for me who loves a lightweight Duvet and Hubs who prefers to be warmer .
I cannot for the life of me remember where I found it , but it may be worth an online search

Two bedrooms! Super king size in mine; king size in his! Have to accept double the washing but a small price to pay. And they say romance is dead!!

My DH has PD, and hates weight on his legs. He has tried sheets, a fleecy throw and a cheap, very thin quilt, while my half of the bed had, at first the whole of the double duvet, then a single one. Nothing worked for him really. We moved house recently, and (I) opted for single beds. It works for me. He is still trying the different duvets, and other options. Sometimes I find him sitting in an armchair during the night, covered by a small lightweight blanket that my DGD uses for her dolls!

How about zipped mattresses with fleece bedding on your side and just a single sheet on his with a full cover over the whole lot during the day to keep it tidy? We've slept in separate rooms for years and both have much better nights sleep. I've got the fleece bedding which is so cosy during the winter.

A 2,5 tog duvet for him and whatever you are comfy in, here in Scandinavia there arent double duvets, I am always warm, OH always cold, we never have heat on in the bedroom, its too cold in the winter to open the window,but with seperate duvets there is not a problem. Good luck.

My H has the window open and no heating in our bedroom and still gets hot and sweaty while I'm cold, so I put an extra blanket or two on my side when we go to bed.

I iron duvet covers but we have a sheet underneath which is washed weekly so dont have to change duvet cover very often!
I like Maimeo's idea - matching single duvets, but just have a thin blanket in his and a high tog duvet in yours. Looks neat and suits everyone.

Try two single duvets with different togs. You could have a nice warm one
And your husband could have a 4.5 tog one which is very thin. You will find it much easier to iron single duvet covers too.

dollyjo When I lived alone in a very cold climate in a wee one bdr cottage, I'd use my wood stove as I got free wood from my parents. But it was a small stove and lost its heat about 2am. So I slept in jogging bottoms and sweatshirt. The electric baseboard heating was so drying I'd itch and nose bled, so did not set the thermostat for it to kick in. It could get down to about 8-10 degrees in the house. By morning my head was under the covers, too. Did my neck in, that did.

IO just put an extra blanket on my side of our king sized bed. He doesn't have to come near me unless he wants to...

Dont mean to be a doom monger but my DH was like this. He mentioned it to his doctor and turned out its related to his Diabetes, Now on medication. Might be worth checking on

My husband needs less togs than me so this duvet talk is great to know about. He sticks his feet out and his shoulders so is quite happy to have a rather warm duvet. When he is not there I wear bedsocks and a wool scarf.

This means I am always happy to see him arrive back from a visit away and he his happy to feel he is needed!!
