I have several strategies:
-go back in my memory to the time when the object was lost to give a likely location
-think about the lost object and when I lost it to lodge the loss in my subconscious which often throws up the actual location randomly
-launch a methodical search of all the likely places
-enlist the memory and search skills of others
This is a mix of rational and random approaches which usually works.

I am dreadful for just putting things down instead of away. Yesterday I prayed very hard and promised to change my ways and lo and behold within 5 mins I'd found it! Spooky or scary??? I had some travel magazines on a chair by my bed and had put it down there but had also put a recipe book down on top. I had previously picked them up together to look underneath. But yesterday I noticed a bit of black and white [the lanyard] peeping out. I did pray my thanks and promised again to change my lazy ways and put things away. DH is not convinced. Glasses being the main problem. If I ever won the lottery I would buy hundreds of pairs of glasses and just scatter them around the house.
