A 45 minute shower

I am small. have short hair and am easily bored so my showering is well under eight minutes, probably nearer four to five with washing and rinsing all in.

On the other hand, my DH is the ultimate bathroom slowcoach and I have to bite my tongue at the ten minutes he actually spends under the shower and the forty minutes it takes for him to complete his ablutons and grooming in the morning.

However, I realise that this is part of his ritual 'awakening' and donning his psychological armor to face another day at work and I am as tolerant as I can be.

A recent postal announcement declaring that we will be fitted with a compulory water meter in the next couple of years might well dent my tolerance, however!

As for forty-five minutes in the shower. If I hadn't read it I would not have believed it possible. What does it cost? What about the other people waiting for the bathroom?

I think they must look for extreme examples on these programmes on how to save oodles of cash. I believe the recommended time to shower is 4 to 5 minutes. Definitely not 45mins! Must admit I haven't timed myself though.

That's insanity. I only spend that long in the swimming pool.. 10 minutes tops in the shower. And the heating is set to a normal heat ... and I should say being married to a northerner waste and excess is not a theme in our house grumpa would not cope !

They were such snobs.nothing but the best for them and not a pot to p**s in...........what are they teaching their kids about life?

These programs about saving money are daft.........if people don't know how to spend on their shopping they shouldn't be doing anything at all.

We are all capable of swapping brands etc, they are just vain idiots for the most part.

45 mins in the shower, what on earth is she doing in there?

Not much different at home from when I shower at the pool, so probably about 2 mins including hair wash. Having said that, my hair is not dry by nature, so I don't need to leave conditioner on for long.

If I am in a nice hot bath with plenty of bubbles and a book, I could easily be in there for 45 minutes.......showers however, I am probably out in less than 5 minutes.

Possibly even a small one Elegran?

Mind you on the days when I have the children here ( Sunday's, Monday's, Tuesday's) even a 2 minute shower is a luxury !

I'd just be bored out of my mind!

In my house, after 45 minutes there would be:-

1) a queue of people with their legs crossed, thumping on the door and shouting.
2) only cold water for the last half hour.
3) an ambulance at the garden gate, called by DH because he thought I must be lying there unconscious.

This is such a funny topic. I also saw the programme and wondered how she could spend 30 to 45 mins in the shower - wouldn't her legs ache after standing that long? Also, how would she get the time to have such a leisurely shower with 3-yr old twins and the rest of the family to look after? I spend approx 5 min in the shower (including hair-washing) and slightly more cleaning the cubicle afterwards!

The problem I have is that I live in a 3 storey house and whilst our heating is set at around 20-21 downstairs where it can be quite chilly, I have all the radiators turned off upstairs where it is baking hot!

30 is far too hot, but 16! That is a bit chilly, even with a jumper on. We usually aim for 21 ish when sitting down in the evening. They were a very nice family, and the house was very organised and well run, apart from the excessive temperature and showers!

Given I agree 30 is OTT, I do love a warm home, 23 is perfectly toasty, no jumper required.

I wondered if she lurks in the shower for that length of time as it's the only place she can get any peace and quiet with 3 sets of twins in the house!

Would only be in the shower 5/10 mins which would include a hair wash 10 mins for breakfast 10 mins for dry hair put make up on and dress 30 mins max
I don't have central heating but my daughter does and it rarely goes above 16 ...on a very cold day it would go to 18/20 the thing is the kids body temperature are totally at that temp and get very hot and uncomfortable if it goes any higher They walk round in not too much clothes when it goes to 18 but other kids visiting say it's cold so they must be used to it a lot higher
My next door neighbour has the heating blasting out and the windows open I just don't get it

I've got one of those egg timers that the water companies give away. I still haven't timed it but I can manage to have a shower including washing my hair before it runs out. I like competing with it!!

I've got a lot of shoes and must admit to shoe closet envy. Mine are in various drawers, on shoe racks, on top and at the bottom of wardrobes...

But I was gobsmacked at the three year olds having 18 pairs each. Tempting though it must be for the shoeaholic mums and nannas to buy them, little feet grow so quickly and this is plain daft.

My SIL has a special cupboard for his various training shoes. I am embarassed for him.

I watched the programme yesterday after reading this and was shocked at the amount they spent on shoes - having a granddaughter who is obsessed with designer trainers I know how much they cost but to have a purpose built closet for them all is a serious shoe commitment As for 45 mins in the shower I'm with everyone else - what on earth can you do in there for that length of time (unless they have one of those all singing all dancing sauna type pods) - it takes me about 5 mins to do it all including tickling the tiles Gilly

Watched the programme on catch-up last night.
Seemed a lovely family.
Very well organised
There were a lot of shoes but all stored well in the 'Shoe Room'
Not just lots of shoes piled up everywhere
Maybe the air-freshner was for the teenagers trainers! (From memory they always pong)

What surprised me was that a family which was so TEC savvy hadn't bothered to sort energy bills out.

The programme as far as bills, energy thermostat and cheaper phone/TV packages & products could help them save money

However although they showed the family that they didn't have to buy top of the range as in TV & Gadgets, the family already owned these things so at the moment there are no savings to be made there.
So would not help with holiday funds.
