Queen Camilla

Prince Charles is campaigning for Camilla to be Queen Camilla when he becomes King. I would not like her to be Queen. I think they both behaved appallingly in carrying on their affair when they were both married to someone else. They had no concern for the hurt, upset and heartbreak they caused Diana and Andrew PB. They just thought it was perfectly OK to act as they did. It's 80 years since Edward abdicated to marry a divorced woman, and Margaret was not able to marry Peter Townsend, even though she was unlikely to ascend the throne. So what rules have changed? He has what he wanted and married her, but making her Queen is condoning their adultery.
But I think I'm in the minority in my view.

Yes Chewbacca, it was in her book which was published under Andrew Mortons name . Do you recall s day or so later she was in tears at an event, dhe was wearing blue ? , think a bomb had gone off at Buck house , it was said later she regretted writing the book , I bet she did

Chewbacca Sun 26-Feb-17 21:47:59

Did she Annie? You mean as in " keeping herself virginal "?

Anniebach Sun 26-Feb-17 21:33:01

How could Diana have known so little of the private life of Charles , he dated one of her sisters before her. And that rubbish she said about she just knew she had to keep herself tidy before marriage .

stillaliveandkicking Sun 26-Feb-17 21:16:21

Lets say Diana went into it as a girl and thought Charles would love her ( i think not as he was always with Camila) then, maybe she felt a bit thwarted. now come on charles, I'm younger and more of a "catch". He actually said no, he loved Camilla. Then she wanted everyone to love her, hence the doe eyes. That actually makes me role my own. Then we had countless Diana affairs and not one really wanted to get involved. She, in reality should have been graceful and stopped flaunting. Gone off and found someone she really may have loved.

maybe someone could explain the fascination with Diana ? I never understood the mass grief when she died ,she was someone none of us knew ,we only saw the Diana the palace and the press and later Diana herself wanted us to see,she was very privileged young woman...someone on here said Charles shouldn't have married her she was happy working in the nursery...... that made me laugh ,maybe she was as a stop gap but that was while she waited to make a "good" marriage and she and her family knew who they had in their sight...very similar to Kate, whose mother moved her from one uni to another because William was attending it .These things are not left to chance..anyone who believes they are is naive in the extreme. And WHy does it still bother people who aren't in their immediate circle 20 years on ? Is it living life through someone else becuase yours is somehow lacking?I'm a republican but what or who they marry ,sleep with etc doesn't bother me a bit...I just want the whole shebang abolished

I have been reading a very good book about the last days of Henry VIII and the thought has suddenly struck me - why is our monarch still called Defender of the Faith? This was a title given to Henry VIII by the Pope for his defence of the Roman Catholic faith. Henry should have given up the title when he broke with Rome and it really has nothing to do with our Protestant monarchs.

Chewbacca Sun 26-Feb-17 20:12:00

No matter what has happened in the past, there's little doubt that Charles certainly appears to be considerably happier and more relaxed with Camilla than at any other point in his life. I would imagine that's worth its weight in gold to anyone, no matter who you are.

To be fair to Charles, I don't think he was really allowed to. It was expected that his bride would be chosen for him, to te extend that her virginity had to be proven. He wasn't exactly a 'man of the world' despite his age, was he?

Eloethan Sun 26-Feb-17 19:53:18

Diana was 20 when she married Charles and he was 32. Given that age difference, he should have had more sense and integrity than to marry a young woman with whom he had little in common, especially as he had a good deal more experience with women - in particular Mrs Parker Bowles - and even as he married his affections were really elsewhere.

I don't really care who takes over from the Queen but I do think some of the remarks about Diana are nasty. None of us is privy to what happened in that marriage but my feeling is that Charles did not demonstrate a great deal of wisdom or integrity from the outset.

icanhandthemback Sun 26-Feb-17 19:43:44

I was not really a fan of Diana, just didn't have much against her. As a child of a mother who committed adultery reasonably openly, just like Charles and Camilla, I can't bear either of them. I just remember the feelings of humiliation I had as a child and it must have been hard for William and Harry reading about it all in the papers. If Charles must be King because of succession rules I'd rather not see Camilla as Queen as I think they behaved shamelessly and selfishly.

Norah. My mistake. Diana died 1997, 20 years ago. Don't know what you mean when you say you can't compare the looks of 2 people because one was born in 1947 and the other in 1961. Of course you can. The remark was not meant to be a serious one but 14 years isn't that much but it's unusual to see a man choose the older woman.
Camilla might still be Queen one day.

Actually, looking nice and an ability to be charming in factories, hospitals, schools, etc. is about all that is required from a royal consort. It's also good if the consort can avoid looking bored as soldiers march past or foreigners demonstrate their quaint customs when she/he visits.

Anniebach Sun 26-Feb-17 19:05:24

What is unfair is so many allegations against C&C came from Diana , no evidence , yet Charles saying he did have an affair after the marriage had broken down is dismissed as a lie. Yet Diana was a manipulator and poor woman suffered from mental health problems. She never, ever said she had done anything wrong in the marriage ,nothing was her fault.

"Norah. Aren't you forgetting that Diana died 30 years ago!"

I believe she died 19 years ago. But you've made my point, there is no comparing looks of women born in 1947 and 1961.

Physical appearance shouldn't be part of the question.

mcem Sun 26-Feb-17 18:54:33

20 years ago. Not a fan but it was just a week after DGD was born.

Gemmag Sun 26-Feb-17 18:46:42

Norah. Aren't you forgetting that Diana died 30 years ago!.

MissAdventure Sun 26-Feb-17 17:07:29

How nice for them.

Norah Sun 26-Feb-17 16:44:25

To who is more attractive Camilla or Diana, it's silly to compare the looks of a 68 year old woman to someone who died at 36.

If physical appearance actually matters or increases the number of available sex partners, not one of the Windsor men would have ever had sex without money changing hands.

Simply put, it seems Camilla and Charles are soulmates.

Apologies in advance for not reading all posts - on holiday with not great wifi. Just wanted to add that I think, in modern times, the title of King or Queen should be reserved exclusively for the reigning monarch if we insist on maintaining a monarchy. We have had great kings and queens in their own right and their spouses should have a lesser title.

merlotgran Sun 26-Feb-17 14:57:20

The Crown is addictive viewing. I can't wait for the next series having binge-watched the first one.

mrsmopp Sun 26-Feb-17 14:54:39

I have watched the Crown and greatly enjoyed it. Highly recommended!

Azie09 Sun 26-Feb-17 14:52:20

I have just discovered a very good Netflix created series called The Crown which is a dramatised but intended to be accurate story of the monarchy from approximately the 1930s onwards. Historically it's a very good rendition of the times and the issues which arise that the family had to confront. It certainly makes you realise how times have changed.

mrsmopp Sun 26-Feb-17 12:01:58

It's an old argument absent, to say that many have committed adultery, including Henry VIII, and other Royals, but that doesn't make it right. Toffs in country houses playing musical bedrooms isn't right. People have been killing each other for years but that doesn't make it right either.
Remember the Ten Commandments?
Thou shalt not kill.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
If believing the commandments makes me bloody prissy then so be it.

MissAdventure Sun 26-Feb-17 11:56:15

Nope it hasn't. It was just passing comments. Its no skin off my nose who is isn't the best looking!

Nelliemoser Sun 26-Feb-17 11:51:43

Has this thread now resorted to "Diana was better looking that Camilla?" FGS is comparing the two all some posters on here can think about! Talk about shallow! Bugger their looks what sort of people are they?
