Queen Camilla

Prince Charles is campaigning for Camilla to be Queen Camilla when he becomes King. I would not like her to be Queen. I think they both behaved appallingly in carrying on their affair when they were both married to someone else. They had no concern for the hurt, upset and heartbreak they caused Diana and Andrew PB. They just thought it was perfectly OK to act as they did. It's 80 years since Edward abdicated to marry a divorced woman, and Margaret was not able to marry Peter Townsend, even though she was unlikely to ascend the throne. So what rules have changed? He has what he wanted and married her, but making her Queen is condoning their adultery.
But I think I'm in the minority in my view.

They don't have to actually do anything! grin

Muse? What do muses do?

stillaliveandkicking Fri 24-Feb-17 20:36:54

oh and allegedly joanna lumley was prince philips muse for many a year smile

stillaliveandkicking Fri 24-Feb-17 20:35:24

All 'allegedly" of course smile we don't really know do we and can only surmise what goes on in any family. Historians have been known to get things very very wrong you know, let alone the press and documentary makers.

Bravo willsmadnan ,i agree with every word ,

Nelliemoser, so right about Charles , he was a gentle, nervous child , under petticoat rule of his Grannie who must have drummed what was to be expected into him from the cradle, just as queen Mary did with queenie, imagine taking on the QM and queenie ,

bet uncle Davids alleged betrayal was his bedtime story whrn in the cradle

I believe queenie and .phil had an arranged marriage , QM only married poor Bertie because dear David wouldn't marry her

Nelliemoser Fri 24-Feb-17 19:45:46

GillT57 Fri 24-Feb-17 13:15:10 I agree with your position on this post. Charles was a very nervous and shy young man. As was his Granddad George V1. His own father seemed not to be at all sympathetic towards his son. Most of the time Charles looked very miserable. He changed when he married Camilla.

The scary thing is how much power they do actually wield. But I would rather him and camilla as head of state than options such as the blairs/Camerons. When Diana died and everyone was about to lynch the queen, it was almost possible that Diana's ghastly brother could have been head of state - such was the fever of our crazy citizens. Bit like Brexit. Sometimes the populous is a bit mental.

Grandmama Fri 24-Feb-17 19:32:54

Diana was an unhappy woman, should never have married Charles and I think she was very manipulative. Camilla has made Charles very happy, she has behaved with dignity and she seems good fun and 'unstuffy' although of course one never knows what really goes on. Queen Camilla would be all right with me.

stillaliveandkicking Fri 24-Feb-17 19:24:15

Have to say I like Camilla more than I ever liked Diana too rafichagran, Diana knew what she was getting into.

rafichagran Fri 24-Feb-17 19:19:42

I would not mind her being Queen Camilla. I like her, but I am afraid I go against the grain as I did not like Dianna.

stillaliveandkicking Fri 24-Feb-17 19:17:56

No Brexit can't be as the majority voted for it Anniebach grin But this can if the "majority" don't mind, and I for one don't.

willsmadnan Fri 24-Feb-17 19:17:42

Oh heck.. find myself agreeing with AnnieB again (we really must find something to disagree about soon) but the idea that Prince William should succeed to the throne over the POW is absolutely ' b.... .ks (sorry Annie). Even the younger members of my family find the Cambridges workshy, boring and according to DD2, who is always one to speak her mind ... Up Their Own Bottoms ( she actually used a worse word). DoC is nothing more than a clothes - horse, revelling in her status. Prince Harry is in the enviable postion of being able to cherry pick his do-gooding for the best locations. Both men should be doing a proper job, given the times we live in.
Lay off the POW.... he's a thoughtful caring individual IMO.... given the rarified atmosphere he's been brought up in.

Anniebach Fri 24-Feb-17 19:07:28

Not everything can be changed

stillaliveandkicking Fri 24-Feb-17 19:05:30

I don't like the word "can't". It can be changed.

Anniebach Fri 24-Feb-17 19:03:31

Camilla cannot be princess Camilla just as Diana was not princess Diana , neither are Royal

Anniebach Fri 24-Feb-17 18:59:59

William and Mary applied to parliment for co regency

stillaliveandkicking Fri 24-Feb-17 18:58:18

Ah but Charles wants her to be his queen and why not. Would it really matter? In fact it would show his devotion to her, which is genuine for a change!

Laine21 Fri 24-Feb-17 18:53:37

Philip was never made king, he has always been Prince Philip. they could have made him a king. (historically, Princess Mary, James 11 daughter, married William of the house of Orange, when they came over to England, he became King william, so it can be done)

Camilla can be Princess Camilla, if Charles 'has' to be king.

stillaliveandkicking Fri 24-Feb-17 18:30:02

I like her. Poor Charles was "pushed" into marrying Diana. Let's face it most of the aristocracy have affairs galore anyway but keep up the facade. They obviously genuinely loved each other for a very very long time.

I'm fine with her being queen.

starlily106 Fri 24-Feb-17 17:44:21

against it.

Sorry, this tablet has a mind if it's own at times.

starlily106 Fri 24-Feb-17 17:42:47

I don't like her and hope she doesn't become queen. I think when they were planning to marry the idea was that she wouldn't, be as the public feeling was

Ana Fri 24-Feb-17 17:34:48

I don't see why. He couldn't very well do it afterwards.

BTW the thought of Charles with Anne as his consort made me laugh! She's grumpy enough at the best of times, and I don't think she and Charles are terribly close...

Luckygirl Fri 24-Feb-17 17:29:28

What she is called is irrelevant. I just think it is a bit tasteless for Charles to be campaigning on this issue before his Mum has even died.

Smileless2012 Fri 24-Feb-17 17:27:02

I think that when their marriage was looking like a distinct possibility the constitutional experts were saying that Princess Ann would be his consort instead of Camilla being queen. It was certainly felt at the time that the public wouldn't accept her as queen.

Smileless2012 Fri 24-Feb-17 17:19:07

I don't like the thought of King Charles and like the thought of Queen Camilla even less.
