Is this a generation thing ?

My D's SO was born in Yorkshire moved to Kent aged 11/12 and has recently spent 2/3 years living in Edinburgh.
Yesterday I asked him to "put the wood in the hole" he hadn't a clue what I meant.smile

Would you say this is a generation thing or a regional one ??

For many years I thought my father was making up witty sayings and little one liners until I heard some old recordings of ITMA and realised he was recycling radio programmes.
