My husband is definitely not deaf!!

Having been deaf all my life I suddenly find myself at an advantage compared to many of my contemporaries because I don't feel self conscious about the technology that helps me, I can lip read and ask people to face me when they're speaking without any embarrassment. I suppose it's because I don't see it as a sign of aging!

I had no idea that surdity was so gender-specific.

Oh all so familiar, apparently I mutter....hmmm but only when speaking to DH

OH has tinnitus and is also losing some hearing - not that he would admit it. My Dad has hearing aids. So between the two of them I spend about 75% of my time repeating things! Everyone else can hear what I say so it's not me talking quietly, as claimed.
TV has to be on at higher volume than I need it, cannot wait for him to go up to his bedroom to watch something different and I can turn it down.

Mine too. Not deaf just can't hear! T.V. blasting away, also I don't speak clearly though everyone else seems to know what I say. WILL NOT take a hearing test. I wear hearing aids to correct inability to hear high tones but cannot bear to be in room where he watches T.V. as it is deafening.

DH really is a mumbler though, as I have little trouble hearing most other voices.
All DH's have selective hearing I think, especially when asked to do household chores, but are eagerly waiting at the table when dinner is announced.When sport is on tv they simply 'tune you out'.

Oh! yes, I have a VERY quiet voice, that everyone else can hear clearly!

we have similar moments ( but is me, not DH) I have less than perfect hearing, but it does depend on who I am listening to, some voices clear than others.
We laugh about it now, and I have had a recent hearing test ( don't need any aids)
And DH who has very good hearing, tends to talk from another room to me, which doesn't help! All I hear is "have we got any blahblahblah?"

Grampy is not deaf BUT definitely has selective hearing and how do men watch football on TV totally oblivious to all around them ? I swear the roof could fall in before he heard me saying anything !

Don't get me started!! We were out yesterday, walking side by side, and he said he fancied a hot sandwich. "Ok", says I, "would you like sausage?" Him: ”Coffee? No, not this morning." . Other instances are available! This happens all the time. It is becoming a major problem. But everyone mumbles, you see.......
