I have been catching up with podcasts of Woman's Hour and an item with Grayson Perry has made me think. After the interview with him which was interesting, he interviewed some 14 year old boys, asking some excellent questions. One question was"what is masculinity". Also further questions about how masculinity is displayed.
The words masculine and feminine are fine. They are scientific words about different sets of chromosomes. but the words masculinity and femininity are social constructs, and may mean different things to different people.
In my opinion, to continue to use these words perpetuates stereotypes. I think we should focus on "humanity" and not continue to give an unspoken message about gender-driven behaviour.
I also think I have chosen the wrong category for this post!
