I think all the shock horror over Trump has been vastly overdone. He is not the first deeply flawed man to be elected into the post, even in our lifetime. Think tricky Dicky (Richard Nixon) or even Dubya (George W Bush), both did immense damage to their nation. Arguably ISIS and the spread of terrorism are the direct results of Bush instigating the Iraq War.
What we have seen with the election of Trump and the Brexit referendum is the triumph of democracy. Both were marginal/procedural victories but the victors won by the laws that governed the separate elections and if you have won, you have won and it doesn't really matter whether it is by a few percent or by having most electors in an electoral college. It may not be be the result that the most vocal in either country wanted, but the elections were free and fair (I very much doubt if Russians intervention, true or not,turned a single vote).
However this is where democracy needs to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. We preach enough about democracy to other countries, now we must show our belief in it. Those opposed to Trump and staunch remainers, must accept the majority vote and work with it. Democrats in the US must follow the accepted ways of constitutional opposition and those who voted remain must now work towards the best possible Brexit. I voted remain, but now believe that all my efforts should go towards ensuring we are out of Europe as soon as possible and finding a new route to peace and prosperity.
Today Africa has shown us how to deal, peacefully, with those who will not accept the results of the ballot box. The defeated President of Gambia has finally been persuaded accept he lost the election and must vacate the presidency. It was done by the loyalty of the Gambian army to a new democratically elected President and a quiet show of force by the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas).
