Everyone feeling a little despondant today all back to work after a fairly hectic xmas and new year. But also my 60th birthday today which everyone has seemed to have forgotten did not get one card from anyone. Hubby gone out to play darts, 2 sons upstairs in their rooms, others with their own familes. Even my siblings have forgotten. We did see everyone new years eve so probably still getting over it. Ah well a glass of red before bedtime. Worst time of year for a birthday sounds a little churlish I know but I shall enjoy my glass of wine

A very Happy Birthday to you Chris - casually mention to your forgetful family how many people on Gransnet thought of you today and wait for the penny to drop. Hope you get taken out somewhere special.flowerssunshine[cake]grinwine

Belated Happy Birthday Chris, hope your family realised and pulled something together for you. XXX

Happy birthday Chris. ?
Sounds like some self-advertising might have been a good move! Birthdays are often a time when we treat others in the course of reminding them of someone they take for granted. No point in being backward in coming forward, I'm sure that you remember everyone else's birthdays.

Next year you could throw a treat or a party for those you care about on your "non-60th birthday"!

I agree that your family members may well be mortified when they realise what they have forgotten; however, this happened to me on my 50th birthday and I felt very hurt all day, then suddenly everyone descended in the evening and thought it amusing to make me think that they had all forgotten, but it was not a good day up till then.

I really hope that it all works out better as the day progresses.

Happy birthday Chris. Sorry it's late. I agree with an earlier post that you should send yourself some flowers. I can understand why you feel hurt, but if nobody has remembered maybe they are planning something for another day? Just a thought because it really is unusual for everyone to forget. Xxx

Happy Birthday for yesterday Chris. I hope you have followed some of the advice to treat yourself - you are worth it! I recently read of a lady who treated herself to a much longed for Craft machine for Christmas. She wrapped it up for herself and on Christmas Day gave her hubby a big thank you kiss and said it was just what she wanted! Seems like a good idea in your case! Btw - will you be making a point of forgetting their family birthdays later in the year? I wonder how they would feel if that happened?

Bellasnana Wed 04-Jan-17 09:58:01

Sorry your family were so thoughtless. I can't imagine ever forgetting my family's birthdays and can understand how deflated you must have felt when nobody mentioned your special day. Belated good wishes and flowers

Yes - do have a happy birthday. I never have any celebration of my birthday 'special' or otherwise, unless I arrange it myself. For both my 60th and my 70th I arranged a meal out in a restaurant for family and friends and both occasions were most enjoyable. It's the only way I can be sure of not being disappointed!

Dianalou Wed 04-Jan-17 09:56:20

Happy Birthday!
My family had no chance to forget my 60th- I took them all away for a weekend, and had a party!
I think you have every excuse to go and treat yourself, and make them feel guilty..

Awe Happy Birthday! I know how you feel. I'm spending my sixtieth birthday in Crete with hubby then I won't be waiting for the postman. It's this time of year that's made them forget.

Mumsyface Wed 04-Jan-17 09:54:39

Belated birthday wishes ?. I don't blame you at all for feeling a little down in the mouth, after all you are required/obliged/like to remember everyone else's birthdays. I once worked in a small private school where the boss organised a small collection for everyone's birthdays and had a mini ceremony with a bottle of wine. Because my birthday is in summer (during the school hols) I was always forgotten. One day I mentioned this to the senior teacher who was doing a collection and hey presto - my birthday appeared randomly at the end of January! Why don't you designate an official birthday (like the queen), tell them all that you've done it for their convenience, make sure they've all got it on their calendars (whether digital or paper) and then snjoy the effect.

Happy Birthday ( belated ) I shall raise a glass to you tonight. Jane's ideas are great so go for some or even all of them ! xxx

TillyWhiz Wed 04-Jan-17 09:51:25

I have a January birthday and usually do gentle reminders - so easy to think all celebrations are now over for a while ! I'm not so fussed about birthdays now but used to ask for my presents to be given in June as had no idea what to have in January and yes, did the reminder then too!

Grannynise Wed 04-Jan-17 09:50:50

Belated happy birthday Chris. Free prescriptions now and free travel if you're in London. Other than that go out and buy yourself some lovely presents!

When I was working I kept a list of staff birthdays and bought cards to be circulated for signatures. I was a bit miffed that nobody ever asked when mine was so it went unrecognized, or if I happened to mention the date, unremembered. sad

kittylester Wed 04-Jan-17 08:55:06

Of course there are downsides - once I got 19 cards which is unheard of for me and I did worry that I had an incurable illness and no-one had told me.shock

Greyduster Wed 04-Jan-17 08:37:44

May I wish you a belated Happy Birthday too, chris. DS completely forgot his dad's birthday in September. He was contrite when I brought it to his attention, but didn't feel disposed to send a belated card. DH said it didn't matter, but I know it upset him quite a lot.

fiorentina51 Wed 04-Jan-17 08:17:41

Belated birthday greetings. You share the same date as my OH. Fortunately, offspring have remembered as have a couple of friends but I understand how you must feel. Everyone gets swamped with Christmas and New Year don't they?
I think Jane's idea is brilliant. Go on, treat yourself to those flowers and a pampering session. ?????????

chelseababy Wed 04-Jan-17 06:50:04

Belated happy birthday. And no pension either!
