Happy Birthday for your 60th ....hey, a thought ...could they have arranged a surprise party for you ? If nothing happens, do as suggested ...buy yourself perfume, flowers and the biggest 60th balloon you can find ,,and go and have lunch ,on your own if need be ! On my 60th I suggested to hubby that I would like to go to a dinner dance locally , with cabaret ,,,his answer ? Well I'm not dressing up, and I don't want to go,but you can go on your own ! o my own to a dinner dance ? don't think so !!! So I took my daughter and her then boyfriend to Paris for the weekend ...thinking we would all go for a lovely dinner somewhere ......she said No, we are going to see the Eiffel tower lit up at night and then going to have dinner ...on our own ! Like an idiot I gave her money to get a nice dinner ...I got a takeaway kebab in my hotel room ! ...oh, she did bring me a cup of tea from a takeaway machine when they got back !!! and when she left at the end of the week she threw a card at me and said you may as well have this !! from the hubby, nothing (but that is normal !) ....never mind I had a wonderful time shopping and having lunch and a nice hotel ......
SO ...make the most of it !! go get your nails done, and a new hairdo and maybe colour ...always cheers me up ! and think of it the way I do .....at least I ALWAYS get what I want for Birthday, anniversary, Christmas, et al ..so I am not disappointed !

Birthday
(200 Posts)Everyone feeling a little despondant today all back to work after a fairly hectic xmas and new year. But also my 60th birthday today which everyone has seemed to have forgotten did not get one card from anyone. Hubby gone out to play darts, 2 sons upstairs in their rooms, others with their own familes. Even my siblings have forgotten. We did see everyone new years eve so probably still getting over it. Ah well a glass of red before bedtime. Worst time of year for a birthday sounds a little churlish I know but I shall enjoy my glass of wine
Belated Happy Birthday Chris xx
Happy birthday. When I was sixty my brother said "that is nothing". When he was sixty he had a party! Perhaps that is just as well as three weeks after he was 65 sadly he died. Not before he arranged a party for my 70th. There was 5.5 years between us.
Happy Birthday!
DH is another whose birthday is close to Christmas and New Year - it's on the 30th December then our wedding anniversary on the 14th January. We always do something to mark both those occasions and nowadays Christmas and New Year have less importance for us. Normally we'd go out for a meal on his birthday and go away for a short break on our anniversary, but this year we can't do anything. He is minus a L knee joint, leg in a splint, on a waiting list for reconstruction of L leg at a specialist unit in Oxford, so we can't do anything. We'll make up for it later in the year when he's mobile again and we can go somewhere.
Happy Birthday for yesterday Chris1459. I hope it turned out better than it started. If not there are some excellent ideas on here on how to get your own back.
One of my daughters has a January birthday too and she's found that after Christmas, she tends to get forgotten too. Not by me I hasten to add.
Anyway I hope your family make up for their faulty memories and that you get to string this birthday out for as long as possible. I love the advice to "milk it".
Happy Birthday Chris! And you haven't even said anything to your husband or sons. No moans or complaints. Wow, what a lovely person you must be. I could learn a thing or two from you
28th December mine, people don't forget but have never been that excited about it after all the Christmas food and not that enthusiastic about another party. I liked it as a child as all the Christmas decorations were up for my party although there were.a number of joint Christmas/birthday presents. My DD's is in August, thought that was a good time but many friends or we were on holiday.
Yes I think you should have reminded the men. I am awful about remembering people's birthdays and thankful now for reminders from a well known e card company.
Happy birthday.
I am a January birthday too.Always forgotten.....
Miserable gits, try ignoring their birthdays.
Happy belated birthday from me too

Happy belated birthday Chris and welcome to the sixties club!
The same day as my oldest nephew, but he joined the 50s club
As one person added, I also hope by now there has been some celebrating. If not go out or off and enjoy yourself.
Happy Birthday for yesterday ?Sorry I wasnt online yesterday xx
and HAPPY BIRTHDAY from me too
Happy birthday Chris. Time you spoilt yourself. X
That is awful! Do as janeainsworth suggests. Happy belated birthday.
Belated 60th birthday Chris .

And there is the answer, a house full of men! For my 60th I organised and paid for everybody to have a lovely meal out at a fancy restaurant, what a waste of money as the two DIL dislike each other and sitting next to the pair of them glaring at each other made for an uncomfortable evening. Food was good though.
Belated birthday wishes Chris
Last year I made my own planes for the day, July birthday packed a folding chair picnic book and spent the day by the coast. Absolutely wonderful. If it was going to be a bad weather day I would of book a pamper day it's my birthday and I will do what i like not rely on others who may forget
Perhaps there will be a surprise party after work? But I know I would feel hurt ALL day.
HAPPY, happy birthday. Make your day special, and then yes... MILK IT.
Happy birthday Chris. Maybe they are planning a surprise for the weekend. I hope so
Hi Chris, I hope by now they have either remembered or a surprise has happened or you went out to treat yourself. As a present to yourself perhaps you could spend the whole year celebrating in different ways! Happy 60th! ????
Sorry about your birthday Chris, send yourself some flowers as suggested then milk it for all it's worth. Birthdays and anniversaries are more important to women than men a fact they don't seem to grasp.
Hope you have a wonderful year

Happy birthday and I hope your family feel guilty when they realize they have missed it it's a big milestone turning 60 I must admit I will be 60 this year and not sure if it's January blues or what but not looking forward to it and I feel a bit guilty after reading your post as my family have been going on about how to celebrate it and I told them not to talk about it as I would prefer to have a quiet one
Hi all, I'm fairly new to the forum but wanted to comment on this. Your 60th is a milestone birthday and although a lot of people want to bury their head & pretend it's not happening it it is an important birthday. You obviously have people who love you & will probably feel awful when they realise - although will you have to point it out to them?! I agree with Jane. Pamper yourself, buy a nice outfit & enjoy a day out. Then book a table at your favourite restaurant this weekend & tell hubby he's to join you and he's paying!! Enjoy
Happy birthday, Chris. I really feel for you. Your family have failed massively and ought to be ashamed of themselves.
However, a couple of thoughts:- everyone is selfish, Christmas is a busy time and it is women not men who are the 'keepers of the customs'. Men, on their own, would never send each other cards, let alone presents though they value it when others think of them. My silly son boasts that he and his friends do not care about such things but I know he would be devastated to be forgotten by his family on his birthday.
It was my 60th milestone birthday this year. I signalled it up about six months early and said, 'No big presents, please, but I'd like a party since I haven't had one since I was nine years old.'
We tried out a couple of party venues only for me to find my DH was assuming it was to be a JOINT party with him, and, as usual, he would take centre stage. Instead of being upset I made it clear it was going to be my party.
For his 60th birthday he sulked a bit and said he wanted a quiet time in Devon so I gave him that but have also arranged a secret, surprise dinner at a nice restaurant for his oldest friends and close family to take place this weekend.
I agree with the other commenters who suggest you should make it clear what you want in the way of presents, celebration and fuss. You might even have to arrange some of it yourself as men can be pretty useless about such things. But make it a three-line-whip with no demurring. You'll find your nearest and dearest will rally round and give you a nice time if they know that is what will please you.
You are very lucky to have a DH and two DSs but men are all a bit 'on the spectrum' about other people's birthdays and need a bit of a hint to get going. I have a DS and a DD and the daughter was the moving force behind my birthday. My husband was 'reminded' by her and managed to buy me a Kitchenaid and a pair of sapphire earrings to match the sapphire pendant she bought me. Magic! However, she made it clear that it was in the way of an investment as I would no longer 'need' my rubies and could 'loan' them to her for her wedding day, should she have one. Neither my DH or my DS would have thought of that!
Vive le difference.
