Everyone feeling a little despondant today all back to work after a fairly hectic xmas and new year. But also my 60th birthday today which everyone has seemed to have forgotten did not get one card from anyone. Hubby gone out to play darts, 2 sons upstairs in their rooms, others with their own familes. Even my siblings have forgotten. We did see everyone new years eve so probably still getting over it. Ah well a glass of red before bedtime. Worst time of year for a birthday sounds a little churlish I know but I shall enjoy my glass of wine

Jolly birthday wishes - life begins at 60!

Happy Birthday-I do hope you picked up some of these suggestions. I feel for you as my DH is rubbish at remembering and I have given up ever expecting a present. I used to think about sending myself flowers and writing a card "With Love". I never did but wish I had,he might think he has competition and pay you some attention.
For my 60th I went on a fantastic holiday but only because I won it otherwise I expect nothing would have happened. Yes I always buy him presents and his birthday is just after mine.
I used to be ashamed that I got nothing but now I say to others how it is. I hope yours is just a one off and not a regular occurrence. Go out and treat yourself lavishly and tell everyone why!

Very sad and inconsiderate of your family - 60 is a big birthday too. Belated happy birthday.

Glamdram Wed 04-Jan-17 13:13:31

Oh and happy birthday too

Glamdram Wed 04-Jan-17 13:13:10

Maybe there's a surprise waiting somewhere
Do they usually forget your birthday ......if they don't and this is out of character for all of them I wouldn't be surprised if there is a surprise for you later...although how much later I really wouldn't know

My 60th is in November. And I'm already planning mine....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Chris

I think people are so wrapped up in texts n Facebook, they forget cards, particularly in December n January

Funnily enough, everyone likes to receive a snail mail card, but often they themselves don't send them!
I would have bought a card n put it on show and sent myself some flowers too! As has been suggested!

Not good, but I like Janeainsworth suggestion. You don't even have to lie, just choose flowers you love, add a note that says 'Happy 60th birthday, have a wonderful day, you deserve it' on there. Then go shopping and buy yourself something indulgent. You may venture a small white lie when asked who the flowers are from. May answer 'I can't think, but aren't they beautiful'?

Happy birthday from me ?

bellsisabelle Wed 04-Jan-17 13:05:36

Chris4159 you go out right now and buy yourself something nice. And a birthday cake. And don't share it with them! Have a lovely rest of the day. cupcake

What was I thinking? Do all our suggestions now & throughout the year, after all you are going to be 60 for a whole year. flowers

cc Wed 04-Jan-17 12:41:29

I do hope that you ended up having a surprise birthday party - you haven't posted again, but as others have said it was strange that nobody at all remembered. If not you can simply forget everybody else's birthdays from now on, if they can't remember your special birthdays why should you bother with their ordinary ones?

Do hope that you will post again to let us know!

Patsy429 Wed 04-Jan-17 12:40:23

Happy Birthday Chris. Jane's idea is brilliant. Hope you ordered your flowers with Happy Birthday on the card.

I know how you feel about January birthdays. Mine is in a week's time and I once wrote a little note about having people's unwanted Christmas presents for my birthday. It stopped one friend from giving me some strange and wonderful gifts!

GrannyLondon Wed 04-Jan-17 12:36:49

Happy birthday Chris, I was hoping we would be told about a surprise celebration.

Do all the nice things we have suggested & next year tell them it's your birthday well in advance, still no response? Take yourself out for the day, treat yourself well, take home your favourite take away, just for you. Do not cook for them in the evening.

Do not buy anyone a card or birthday present this year. That'll learn 'em.

Bdaparadise2015 Wed 04-Jan-17 12:23:24

I feel for you. Sorry that no one acknowledged your special day seeing that it was a milestone. It happened to me on my 65th. Visited my daughter and took her and granddaughter to breakfast. Daughter was in an extremely bad mood. Made the experience disappointing. Took them home and ended up having dinner by myself in a restaurant that night, crying... I should know better. I usually plan my birthdays so I won't be disappointed. This was a huge milestone for me.

Vonnie123 Wed 04-Jan-17 12:20:07

Happy Birthday Chris. Don't be making excuses for your family. I'm sure if the shoes were on the other feet they certainly wouldn't let anyone forget.
Follow the suggestions and spoil yourself - then make them pay for a long time ;)

Happy birthday??I had to organise my own 60th celebration, and my husband's . It's my youngest DS 30th this weekend and his girlfriend has organised a family meal out. Seems to be a pattern here...

Lewlew Wed 04-Jan-17 12:13:49

Oh I was hoping by page 5 that your family would have come to their senses by yesterday evening! sad

Belated Happy Birthday. We do the milestone ones in our family, every 5 years. The older we get the more our boys celebrate as they know we won't be around for ever.

This was brought home to me when I think about that we will not be visiting my late brother in the US for his 75th (which is also my DH's 75th). He died last April. sad

Birthdays are a celebration of life... enjoy every one you can! wine flowers

Aepgirl Wed 04-Jan-17 12:12:30

My advice is that for nearer your next birthday you make a point of announcing that on January 4th you will be 60+1, and will be celebrating it somehow (if only with other Gransnetters). Then you can enjoy the embarrassment from your family when they realise they didn't mark your 60th this year.

HAVE A GREAT DAY - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

Veda Wed 04-Jan-17 12:00:25

No excuse at all to forget especially a BIG O. I would be very upset. However, my 60th has long gone. I do remember five years ago my daughter went away on the morning of my birthday. I complained on the phone messages that she hadn't even bothered to give me a card. Her reply was, "Oh Mum I'm sorry, it's on my bedroom floor." That must be the strangest way of delivering a card!!!

Stansgran Wed 04-Jan-17 11:57:17

Happy belated birthday too from the wife of someone who has a birthday on the second of January. It's really hard work getting enthusiastic just so soon but I do rally the troops and do hard glares at dilatory daughter. It's worked so well that even her husband the original non celebrator of anyone's birthday bar his own sent a present! I'll send one of my hard glares for you to use on the familygrin

Sheilasue Wed 04-Jan-17 11:55:36

Happy birthday Chris and such a special birthday too. Maybe you may have a suprise party.

CardiffJaguar Wed 04-Jan-17 11:48:40

What is all this fuss about birthdays? That is for children and as adults the passage of time is much more significant than any one day. Add to that the fact that we are, as a nation, all living longer what is much more relevant is being healthy and adaptable.
I see some interest in celebrating living to, say, 100 if only to get that note from the Queen;s office but after that who cares? It is not age that matters but what we do with it.

Skweek1 Wed 04-Jan-17 11:45:09

Belated happy birthday - is it possible that they are planning a late special secret celebration?

yummygran1 Wed 04-Jan-17 11:38:59

Hi Chris....Happy birthday, it was also my 60th yesterday too. Not a good feeling. I was back at work so for me it was just an ordinary day too, but I have organised my own birthday party, I thought if I didn't no one else would, I did the same for my 50th and 40th. Why don't you organise a get together for friends and family?

I have never liked having a birthday so close to Christmas and the New Year, when I was little I either had 'a little extra Christmas present' for my birthday too or if I did receive a separate birthday gift it was usually wrapped in Christmas paper, because they 'hadn't had chance to get to the shops'. I always wished I could have a birthday in June when it was mid way through the year.
