Aw bless you do you think they are planning something later and just pretending they have forgot? Daft but it may be true anyway imm57!this month and have to wait and see if my lot remember when I'm 60 have a lovely rest of today birthday go out and buy yourself something you've always wanted !!! I had mentioned it around november time when attended a family 70th, and have never hidden my age. Putting it down to being a very hectic xmas period for all of us.

I find it very strange that you hadn't " reminded" your family that you felt your 60th merited recognition. Surely it had been mentioned before that this was a big one?
What was the procedure on previous birthdays?

Happy belated birthday Chris. Give yourself a treat every week for the coming year and remember to advertise next year's birthday well in advance! I have similar problems as mine is Dec 30th. This year was my 65th and only one of my 3 daughters "forgot" so some success there. I refused to celebrate it for the 20 years between 40 and 60 (first husband died just before my birthday) so it's taken a bit of training since but they do get the message in the end.

Happy birthday Chris. I am 65 on the 6th on my 60th I had a birthday party for the whole family. I think 26. I hired a stretch limo and the ladies and children went for a ride men stayed at home. My sister in law and my daughter in law share my birthday. Maybe you should have planned something.

Gosh surprised at all the replies on thread.
Just in from work. A card from colleagues and a card from a friend in Devon, and sister in Australia in the post. They obviously didn't realise it was my 60th that could be a good or bad thing either look to young or a lot older.?? probably my fault really as didnt remind anyone I am 60. Thank you everyone for your best wishes.

Belated birthday wishes.

I agree book yourself a day out, lots of treats and just go leaving a note saying you will be out 'till late celebrating your birthday seeing as no one in the family seemed to think there was any need to. Oh and make sure you spend all the money you would normally spend on their birthdays as you won't be spending it on them this year.

So sorry to hear that Chris. I wouldn't wait for tomorrow. Just go out! Ring a friend and meet them for a celebratory drink - and even a meal if you fancy. Leave a note on the kitchen table of the "dinner's in the dog" variety. FLIPPING HECK! 60! They should be waiting on you hand and foot. However, also go out tomorrow and treat yourself. Any birthday deserves to be celebrated, but one with a zero in it gets to be marked all year. I hope they show you a bit more appreciation and are ashamed of themselves. Happy birthday to you x

Happy Birthday Chris. As It was yesterday I assume there was no surprise party. (Personally, I think it's a cruel concept to pretend forgetfulness all day so the birthday person thinks they've been ignored then spring a surprise.) Mine is next week so I know the problems of January birthdays & reminder strategies have to be put in place. Waiting to see if they remember is like testing people to see if they fail & can back-fire. For my 60th I organised & paid for lunch for a few ex Uni friends & I let DH know what I wanted to do to celebrate & he organised it. Next week, it's my 70th & luckily DS & family are over from abroad - but I've done all the organising to ensure what we do is OK for different people & ages plus what I like too. My advice is to start planning for your 70th now (it soon comes round!) or even your 65th. Make January your Birthmonth, not day, & do something for all close family so they never forget again. Lots of love & enjoy this great decade doing what you want. X

I don't run the risk of anyone forgetting my birthday - I make sure I remind them well in advance. No point in being subtle with husbands and sons! My friend has a birthday on Christmas Eve and likes to celebrate a "half birthday" in June so that she can have a bit of undivided attention! Happy Birthday!

I would take yourself off to the sales, get something mega expensive and buy a card to put up. That should wake them up. 60 is one of the special birthdays, they would expect you to celebrate theirs so why not yours?

Happy Birthday + 1 and massive congrats on reaching your sixth decade with your family still around you, equipped to cope with their own lives, and you able to toast yourself on a good job done. Doesn't always happen these days, but for you, it's win win! And no wonder: your Capricorn strengths are that you're trustworthy, service-oriented and devoted to whatever is important to you - work, family, friends,beliefs - whatever. So much so that you may also come across as stubborn, secretive and/ or maddening! Your main feeling yesterday may have been that everyone had failed to do the right thing by you. But did you actually tell them you were having an epic birthday this year? You mention only men in your family: husband, two sons at home and others with families. Have you always organised them impeccably? Sent out birthday and Christmas cards? If you don't have a savvy daughter to talk to and learn from, then you do have extra difficulties in this hectic life today. Oh, and don't forget that birthdays increase our powers of invisibility!

January 3rd yesterday was "the day of total involvement" - so why not do a business audit on your performance to date and plan for what's to come. Chart how you came to be in this highly successful position and decide on future strategy. As no one at all in the family sent you a card, (and it clearly hurts your dutiful Capricorn soul not to be appreciated) find out whether your men aren't bothered about cards and presents too in future? If they're not fussed that will be something off your to-do list. If they do want cards, then they must remember your birthday too. Future strategy should then be considered after a session of total involvement in your learning plan for retirement.

I had one friend who's Birthday was Christmas Day, she was 40 before she ever got to celebrate it as a Birthday. Christmas finished at 6.00 & a group of us went out for the evening. Her other pet hate was cards which said "for your Birthday at Christmas".

I have other friends who have Birthdays either just before or just after Christmas - they all hate it.

Treat yourself, indulge & make it plain that you are Celebrating being 60 - take yourself out & let them fend for themselves
