New diary ?

Am about to start a bullet journal for the first time. Bullet points not bullet weapons, tho i will find a better name. Mumsnet has several threads full of fans on why they work. I hope it will replace my many bits of paper with lists etc on, keep them all in one place, the key point is you have an index, and any list can go in any order as long as a note is made in the index. Here's hoping...

I have an A6 spiral bound diary (so it will open flat and stay open) for my handbag in which I note menus for the week and the shopping list so they are both together for reference at the supermarket. Also I write in appointments but these also go on the computer calendar so they show up when I look at emails. Every few years I buy an A4 page a day narrow-ruled diary, the current one was bought in 2013, each page will usually be enough for 3 or 4 years' entries. Each evening when I write it up I can see what I was doing at the same time in 2013/14/15. I'll need another in 2018. Some entries are quite long, sometimes I even record dreams I've had. Some pages have newspaper items tucked into them that I have found interesting. No idea what the family will make of my years and years of diaries when I pop my clogs.

The Dairy Diary from the milkman is fantastic, my Great Grandma in law always bought me this as a christmas gift, they never fall to bits,really great value at £7.99. I love looking back at all the ones from the past.

Didn't know you could still get those grannypiper. I always had one when I had a milkman. I'd love to use a milkman again but he came at 4 am and left his engine running right under our bedroom window.

I don't keep a diary but I have kept my diaries going back to when the children were young and love looking at them.

Don't keep a personal diary ( if I did, it would be full of interesting anecdotes on the lines of 'had beans on toast for lunch') but we keep a desk diary in the study and a desk diary in the hall. The one in the study is for appointments to keep, and the hall one for meeting friends, reminders to send birthday cards, and other stuff such as 'collect DGS from school and give him a meal' type thing.We would be lost without either diary.

Gagagran, thanks for the information about the Bishopsgate Institute. I have all my mother's diaries written every day from 1970 until her death last March & was wondering what to do with them. The handwriting is small & I don't find them that interesting - all very mundane & factual about who phoned when etc., little about thoughts & feelings about people or wvents. But I can't bring myself to throw them out as they could be of interest to someone. I think ahe started when my Dad used to deny what he'd said or if anyone said they'd phoned & they hadn't. You could never get away with a white lie with Mum.

I bought a Royal Horticultural Society diary for this year and it's so pretty that I hope I can find another one when next year's diaries are available. I've never seen them in NZ shops before.

We have quite a few visitors to our home and so it's a pleasure to record dates in it. I also use it to record appointments, birthdays etc.

I admire people who write a daily diary but somehow I always feel self-conscious when I try to do that. I gave up that idea a long time ago.

Diary from RSPB, starts in Dec so replaces old one in my Handbag, need it frequently when I'm out.

Calender - slim-line from RSPB hangs in Lounge near phone, note all appointments, Lunch dates, Monthly Afternoon Tea dates, local Horse Racing (need to avoid certain roads), Car Boot Sales, Antique Fairs, Birthdays. I couldn't survive without either.

My dh is very smug about keeping his diary/calendar on his mobile phone. I have a write-on calendar instead. He thinks I am a Luddite.

But I am the one who knows what is scheduled to happen every time[at least 3 or 4 times a week] dh loses his phone...
