Boxing Day traditions - what do you do?

Lots of games with GSs, DD and SiL. Much arguing, shouting and hysterical laughter. New ones enjoyed were Dixit, ( French, surreal), Spyfall (accusations flying) and Codenames (ingenuity, frustration and inability to keep poker faces!). Much fun was had by all!

A very unusual day as for the first time in years we have not had 3 DGC for Christmas day Number 2. After court order we had them Christmas afternoon and night and they went back to Mummy's Boxing Day afternoon. Have found out that Mummy went out drinking and left them with sister .... Grrr!! They could have stayed here!

Did 4 loads of washing as it was dry and windy, including bedding as DGD was sick in bed last night. Cleared a space in front of the settee and watched missed Christmas day programmes.

DS uncharacteristically made tea, turkey, oven chips and a forgotten Baked Camembert. Pigged out on camembert and crackers, then fell asleep for an hour. Started on left over wine and wrote Annual letters I had not had time for before Christmas.

What a strange day.

Sorry Grannyknot only just seen your request. It was called The Love Punch. A little stilted, I thought, but nice easy viewing. All the old favourites, Timothy Spall, Emma Thompson and Celia Imrie, so you can't go far wrong with that lot!

Those games sound good Elrel. we had a lot of fun Xmas day with one game called Silly Sausage and another which was a form of Charades for kids called Don't Say It, where you had to describe something without using certain key words. Turned out to be just the right level for the company which included 2 grumpy 30 year old men who "don't do Xmas" and my quiet 8 year old DGS. Everyone joined in and we were all crying with laughter at one point.

Cooked on Christmas Day for one set and then had a cold lunch on Boxing Day for the second influx. Had to rest with my feet up once they'd gone but we did have fun doing metal puzzles and chatting generally whilst the children play. It was very tiring but everyone seemed to have a good time. The place still looks a wreck but at least there is a path to the settee and I get to the coffee without breaking my neck

Lots of us had gammon for Boxing Day ! Us too with chips and fresh pineapple ?

Lyndylou - Such fun! We also had Bucket of Doom which turned not, after all, to be suitable for 12 year old, notwithstanding that he enjoyed it immensely ...

I had my youngest DS with his partner and 2 DGDs on Boxing Day, as well as my other DS who lives at home. They have gone to the other my DIL's family now but will be back here this evening and the DGDs will stay for a couple of days.

Much fun was had here too last night. Lots of games and giggles

We had 10 for Christmas dinner and then 10 for Boxing Day. But cold meat, mash, pickles etc. We then have £1 presents - everyone buys one, they go in a bag and we all choose one. Then we all swap if we want to. Best one this year? A man's suit from a closing down charity shop!!

Got up late. Shortish walk around village with DS2 & DGF (8 months pregnant) and their dog. We had a cooked breakfast so too full for any lunch. In the afternoon they returned home and we watched TV and had turkey leftovers then I started a jigsaw. A very nice relaxing day.

Lots of people, cold buffet and the big Boxing Day Quiz. Usually Boys v Girls. Losers to do the clearing up!!
Looking back, I actually can't remember what the tinies were doing while that went on -presumably playing happily???

No traditions as such , this year had family to lunch, but other years have spent it quietly, but there is always the eating up leftovers tradition, and the opening of the chocolates saying ' shall we just have two each' (!) tradition.
