Well, mixed feelings about the coming year for me. I have to have tests for different conditions within the next month or two and then take it from there, depending on test results, so that is worrying and brings apprehension.

On the bright side of life, I am getting a stair lift soon, getting a different car in March to get my current mobility scooter in to use in shops etc., getting another mobility scooter which is more comfortable for lumpy pavements and have the task of re designing DS's bedroom. Plus the garden wants some attention and I intend to take up some new hobbies.

So, that's me then. What does 2017 hold for you? smile

Oh Anya that is my most fervent wish. Fingers crossed for both of us and our freinds and family. 2016 was bad, I'm terrified 2017 might be worse. I hope I can learn to take each day as it comes.

I'm hoping 2017 is a bit less hectic than 2016. DH retired at the end of November but the reality of that has not hit us yet.

We have had lots of hiccups in the wider family which look like being on going but I hope they will be less all consuming for us and the people involved. And i wish people would take my really, really good advice!!!!grin

And then there's Mum!!

Best wishes to all undergoing surgery in 2017 and those suffering from ill health.

The beginning of the year I know will be very hard, a very dear friend whom we have known and loved for 35 years has finally been told after 7 years of cancer treatments, surgery and numerous research trials, that no more can be done . He has a few weeks left and at his 70th birthday party last week said his goodbyes in an amazing final speech . He has been a tower of strength and support to me through very difficult times . I must now be that strength and support to his wife who is managing to hold herself together for these last weeks with him .

My aim is to redecorate this tired old but lovely house from top to bottom. It will be a case of gently does it both mentally and materially but it's a project I'm gonna take forward at my pace. I feel having a target, no matter how trivial, helps me a lot.

We are having two new grandchildren. DD expecting a boy to go with her girl (who grudgingly accepts a new baby in her house, but only a girl!) and D-Step-D expecting her first a month later.

Niece number 3 is having another boy around the same time.

Also having the oldest niece's wedding in October.

Hoping for all good! smile

I second that anya. I would just love us all to have a year which is Joyful, healthy, uneventful basically, just one to recover for a while.

I am waiting for a letter to arrive, the contents of that letter will determine on the whole how things will be in the future. ( Of course that sounds a bit silly as none of us know what is in store), assuming though that nothing dreadful is about to happen, our lives will be determined to a great extent by the letter's contents.

Susie flowers It will be tough, make some last minute memories with this lovely couple, keep laughing through the tears, it does help afterwards. And remember we are all here for you. X

I will be living in a new flat and starting a new part time job after retiring from full time work in July this year. Starting a new job after being in the last one 12 years is quite scary especially as I am having to drive my way around an area I don't know at all ( thank God for sat navs and AA route plans) As I'm now living VERY close to all my family that's the best part. All I really want is for those I love to be healthy and happy

Moving house in January .

Shanma Fri 23-Dec-16 00:02:03

The ONE day thst we go out, and we come home to find a card to say that THE LETTER was unable to be delivered as no one to sign for it, so having waited all this time I now have to wait until tomorrow morning when I can collect it from the Sorting Office ( This morning by the time any of you read this,if anyone does.

My life hangs in the balance now( Not literally), but this letter is so important, if it is good we can finally breathe a sigh of relief and look forward to a calmer future. If not, well if not I am not sure we want a future tbh.

Shanma I am so sorry you have had bad news. Maybe take stock for a few days and see what can be done, if anything. Sending good wishes.

Jane10 Sat 24-Dec-16 06:41:06

So sorry Shanma. You just never know what life might throw at you. Feel free to vent on GN. Its only a little thing but it might help. Best wishes and good luck anyway.flowers

cornergran Sat 24-Dec-16 07:10:52

shanma so sorry your news was bad. Please don't think I'm prying and certainly not encouraging you to share more than you are comfortable with but please remember people on GN are by and large helpful and caring. There are many with specialist backgrounds and of course there is a huge range of personal experience. No one can change the content of the letter but there may be people who can give you support, information or advice that will help the future be less difficult and give you hope. Sending flowers and my good wishes.

DaphneBroon Sat 24-Dec-16 07:16:23

I echo what those before me have said about support and send my best wishes at this time. flowers

kittylester Sat 24-Dec-16 07:23:55

I'm sorry to hear you have bad news especially at this time of the year, Shanma and echo completely corner's post.

Very few of us get to the stage of becoming grandparents without having had disaster strike in some way or another so let GN help if you feel we can.
