Christmas presents when you were young

A recent thread prompted me to ask what kind of presents you received when you were young? What was your best present? Mine, by a long way, was a Bayko building set. A forerunner of Lego, it consisted of straight metal rods that you inserted into a green base and then you added bricks and windows and doors to create your 'dream home.' I saw a set in a museum a few years ago, and I think my own DGC would love it. Oh, and I forgot - Spirograph, I loved that.

Antonia I have just seen your 'build' envy! It looks great, and gosh, it took me back years!

I really, really want to make another Bayko house now. Wanders off to search for Bayko online....

Thank you Greyduster! I had huge fun doing it. There are lots of sets on Ebay Maggiemaybe but some are pricey. Since I bought for I've been looking online too. Apparently they are in demand now from adults and there is even a Bayko society with meet ups in the UK. I have since bought another set because after building the house I didn't have many bricks left. Since there are 2 DGC, I want both of them to be able to build something. I have shown them the house on Skype, it got a very good reception!

I've just remembered a present I got when I was about 3 - it was a blue and silver plastic trumpet. I remember standing on the gatepost blowing it. My mother tells me it got broken several times, but the mouthpiece that made the noise worked right up till the end and I drove them mad with the noise.

JackyB that reminds me when I was about 5 or 6 in hospital having my tonsils out. My parents gave me a musical box which played the Carnival of Venice when you turned the handle. The nurses must have been sick to death of that tune which I played endlessly - the other children on the ward certainly were!!!!
