My Mum made my Angel when we were first married some 40 years ago,she bought an undressed doll about 7" tall and made its costume, wings and halo, the Angel's white satin dress is becoming a bit marked but she has got more years in her yet! It's as if Mum is still with us at Christmas.

We have a star atop the tree. It has had a bus pass for several years as have lots of the decorations.

I made her twenty years ago. A tiny three inch tall angel. First grandson was due and I thought, if he was born at Christmas, he would have to have a Christmas tree in his crib in the hospital. I bought a foot high tree and tiny decorations for it. He arrived on 29th December. She has been on top of my live tree every year since. The latest tree, I have had three years, is three foot tall and is growing in a pot on the patio. I still have the tiny decorations that go on a smaller live tree.

I used to have a little gold harp-playing angel for the top of my tree, and then someone who shall be nameless remarked that it looked like one of the teletubbies ...

I've got a glittery red star now.

My daughter has just sent me a picture of the pink foam fairy on top of her tree that we had when she was a child - daughter is now 45! so guess the fairy must be 40 years old.

My mum made my fairy for me quite some time ago! She's a plastic doll (not Barbie style ) that mum dressed in pink crepe paper and a silver wand ?

My fairy is 52! Bought for my first Christmas, Mum gave her to me when I moved out and had my first tree. She has moving limbs, a now off white crepe dress and is holding a,wand with a silver star. I've just had a thought, she has battered silver wings so she may well be a fairy!! Either way she sits on the top of my tree (bought from Woolies in their closing down sale) every year, along with a red felt covered trumpet which has also seen better days as I remember me and my brother and sister had different coloured ones, don't know what happened to theirs.

I'm not sure if she is an Angel of a Fairy but she is very beautiful & hand made by the sister of a friend of mine 2 years ago. Before that it was a star but always a Fairy when I was a child with a new doll every year with clothes that came off so I could dress her. Mum made the clothes herself.
I had boys so did not carry on the tradition.

We have a wire star with a shiny blob in the middle but lots of little gold and silver cherubs all over the tree and strangely a Christmas Owl aa Christmas butterfly and an Eiffel Tower that my daughter bought me so that I can say ' you can see the Eiffel tower from here' its a family joke don't feel obliged to laugh.

My tree top ornament is sort of exotic, a bit we-three-kings-of-orienty

David1968 Sat 17-Dec-16 14:18:48

Eric, our little "living " Christmas tree, conveniently has two "points" at the top, so it's a star on one and a fairy/angel on the other!

We have Mickey and Minnie mouse at the top of ours ?

We have an angel. Our 3 year old DGS helped me decorate the year this year but was most disappointed I couldn't lift him up far enough to put the angel.on the tree. There was much excitement when Hraffa arrived home and scooped him up to do the job. His little face was a delight, he was so triumphant!

GrammaH Sat 17-Dec-16 16:45:12

Or even "Graffa"!

We have a light up star.
My three year old grandson insisted on a star on top of 'their' Christmas tree.
Saying 'I want a star like Gan'

As a child we made our own xmas decorations
It was my job to make the star.
A roughly cut out star from a cornflakes box
Then covered the star in silver paper.

We also made the Blue Peter coat hanger advent candle decoration

Angel, DSis inherited our childhood fairy when mum died

We had a lovely angel but it disappeared when our SiL was "tidying" our spare room. I think it is somewhere in the eaves, which means it will probably never be found.

So now we have a cardboard one made by our little granddaughters. She is pink, with wool hair and paper wings, and has long eyelashes and a maniacal grin. I love her, though.
