Those damned Hatchimals !

I saw them in the shops way back in September for £56. My GD wants one, but the last time we looked they were £120. I've told her mum we will try and get her one for her birthday in January. Hoping the price will have gone down again.

my second grandaughter expressed a wish for one so i looked them up on amazon and was shocked at the price to be paid for an egg which hatched and then didn't do much at all.
we discussed the price and what it did [or rather didn't] do and she decided that perhaps she didn't want one anyway!!
she got a furby for her birthday present at the end of november [this from her mummy] but the thoughts of hatchimals have completely gone out of her head.
normally i pay attention to what they want for christmas and birthdays but this year i've gone for what i've decided - a "roll up" drum kit [without speakers] for the eldest grandaughter and a small electronic organ for the second one. they have made hints throughout the year [and hopefully forgotten] but i've remembered!!

My son works at Smyth's they are out of stock but they have hundreds in the back that have been pre ordered.no more till end of January.

There is always 'the' toy which is never available after about the middle of November; so frustrating and I'm sure it's done on purpose. I spent several days trying to track down a transformer for my youngest, and a friend, very calm, elegant and unflappable had a vicious handbag fight in a toy store for the very last Tinky Winky for her grandchild. We must all be mad. Have you tried 'Smyth's Toys'? They are very helpful and got me an elusive toy for GD last year.

I don't know what a hatchimal is, but in a similar situation some years ago I rang the manufacturer to ask where in my area there had been a recent delivery or was about to be a delivery - it worked, I rang the store to confirm and I got one (whatever it was, the toy of the year...)!

Well I read these posts. Went on Argos. Bought 1 for 59.99 on fast-track delivery. Don't know what people are whingeing for. Might just sell it on and get my GS something less tacky with the profit

I used to work for a toy distributor and there was always one toy that sold far more than we anticipated so we would fly some in at the last minute. So they may appear again next week

I would not pay over the odds for something on Ebay gillybob, you could make up some tale of the mummies needing to lay some more and give them something else small in the meantime; it's just unscrupulous people trying to make a fast buck.

I m sorry for those changing to Furbys they are equally awful and equally overpriced and they were played with for about one day in our house
The toy firms do it on purpose rev up one particular toy that kids 'have to' have then watch them scamble happens every year for probably the last 20 years Awful awful practice but will continue until parents/grandparents wise up and say no more

I had no idea what these were but looked them up - the latest fad no doubt. Ye Gods they are expensive. Amazon best bet if you must!

So glad DGS is into football & football games on tablet, DS or whatever. Loves football figures & WWW (wrestling) figures & books (he's 6) - not interested in "faddy" toys

Sounds just like my grandson too Legs55 anything to do with football , especially Real Madrid and Sunderland (strange combination I know) It is his sister that have asked for the Hatchimals.

There are some people, just like you thehistorian who have only bought them with the hope of doubling their money on eBay. Personally I hope they (and you) are stuck with them. Santa would be disgusted in you !

The world has gone mad ! Just explain that Father Christmas has run out of the silly plastic things . Anyone who pays for this overpriced nonsense deserves to be fleeced !!

Not when can e-bay it for twice that. When it says out of stock, there is a 'back door' which does not use main webpage. I went through 'click and collect', then fast delivery as out of stock locally. Received the vile green item within 24 hours. Got son to e-bay for me sold within hours for twice( his idea) purchase price. Apparently they have them for silly money

What a terrible thing to admit to Historian there is certainly no milk of human kindness in your actions.

We're not at that stage yet with DGD and only managed to prime her for the Santa visit the other day.
She always asked for 5 bananas when asked so we planted the seed of a new kitchen for her and she seemed quite receptive to the idea!!!
