I think you can give each of your children up to £3000pa as long as its out of your own already taxed income. At least I think that's right. It certainly used to be.

Oh, and as you presumably just bought the holidays for them, you haven't given any money away and it's none of the taxman's business...grin

I think you can give money to your children each tax year up to a certain amount without penalty.

What kind of treat do you think your family would like? Do you ask for a list, or do you just use your own judgement. I don't like this sending out a list for birthdays or Christmas presents. I buy what I think they would like.

Last year one of my savings accounts matured and I thought instead of buying birthday presents for all the family members I would spend the (interest) money on holidays for them all as they had had a lot of stress one way or another. I was really pleased I did that. They never stop talking about how they had a fantastic relaxing time. All three families went to different places. Made me wonder if I should do it again one day. What would the taxman make of that I wonder?
