What kind of treat do you think your family would like? Do you ask for a list, or do you just use your own judgement. I don't like this sending out a list for birthdays or Christmas presents. I buy what I think they would like.
Last year one of my savings accounts matured and I thought instead of buying birthday presents for all the family members I would spend the (interest) money on holidays for them all as they had had a lot of stress one way or another. I was really pleased I did that. They never stop talking about how they had a fantastic relaxing time. All three families went to different places. Made me wonder if I should do it again one day. What would the taxman make of that I wonder?

Oh, and as you presumably just bought the holidays for them, you haven't given any money away and it's none of the taxman's business...
