Do you still wear an apron ?

My mother used to get very cross with Fanny Cradock on television because she never wore an apron!

I do have one, but rarely use it. I don’t do serious cookery.

I used not to when young but I do now, all the time, so it has to be pretty or comic or?!!!!

I don't although I have a black one with skulls and roses on it which I think I wore at Christmas. I also made a blue and white striped apron at school with my name on the top and also a cap.

My mother always wore a nylon overall in the shop she ran and then in the hotel - she still had them when they retired and always wore them to wash up or bake. I had an aunt who was like Catherine Cookson's Fanny McBride - she always wore a tabard - bless her - she was so lovely.

Ooh have a collection of aprons (neighbour just gave me another one from Portugal) and put one on a soon as I go into kitchen ……

Never do, never have* - but sometimes wish I did, esp. after splashing bleach-containing bathroom cleaner on to a nice, relatively new linen top!
*except for the cookery apron I had to make at school, at 11 or 12!
Though now I come to think of it, I will beg or borrow one before cooking Christmas dinner - always seem to manage to splash fat/turkey juices on whatever I'm wearing.

I wear one when baking and cooking, but not when cleaning.

It all depends on what I m cooking. If it's going to be messy well yes I do. If no mess foreseen no I don't. Still like aprons though. never seen DD wearing one though.

I have a collection from places I have visited. I'm a very messy cook and I tend to wipe my hands on them.
The local nursery were having an afternoon tea party and my friend, who works there asked if the staff could borrow some.
I haven't been able to throw out the pretty ones, I inherited from my mother, so I lent them.
My friend calls me, "The apron queen".

Woodburning stove... stupid phone!!!

I wear one when bathing the dog...cleaning the woodburning.... polishing shoes..doing "dirty" jobs..or if am wearing good clothes whilst cooking(not often!)

I wear a tabard when washing up, that`s the only time though. I tend to do my cleaning jobs in my nightie and dressing gown, before getting dressed.

Yes, I do. I am a very messy cook.
I don't wear one for doing housework though, just a pair of tatty jogging bottoms and an old t shirt!

Always wear an apron as do the entire family. When I did my food hygiene courses we were told to wear an apron to protect the food from our clothing, it was the other way round in my mind!

I can remember MIL wore not only an apron but a morning dress for doing her housework in and after lunch she would go and change into her afternoon dress for receiving visitors or going out! I thought that very grand!

Yes i do i have two hanging in the kitchen a pale coloured one which is used when cooking and the darker one for when i am cleaning the bathroom, it prevents accidental splashes of products that contain bleach from ruining my clothes.I also wear another apron which hangs in the greenhouse when gardening, it has pockets for putting tools in and helps keep my clothes clean. I also use disposable gloves for cleaning and washing up and gloves for gardening. I have sensitive skin on my hands and these all help to prevent flare ups which then requires steriod creams to dampen down the problem.

I too made one at school, beige with blue trim! I used to wear them for baking, but I haven't baked since the kids left home. I have a very pretty one hanging on the kitchen door which has never been worn! Like you DanniRae, when wearing a dress or (scratchy) skirt, I still can't go without an underslip.

I don't but should wear an apron for baking as I am a mucky baker. Been wondering what to do with some of the material that I have collected, so will be making a couple this afternoon.

No I have never worn an apron at home, I did own one once for cookery lessons at secondary school but that's it, in fact my mum never wore an apron either.

I have a navy stripped butcher style apron that I wear if I'm entertaining quite a few to Sunday roast or a family gathering. I wear it whilst I'm preparing the food, which usually involves a lot of getting roast vegetables in and out of the oven and making various puddings. Otherwise no.

I have two; a black and white striped butchers apron that I wear for most cooking, and a smaller Eden Project one that DD bought me. I use it sometimes but this is the one GS gets lumbered with when he bakes here and as it is flowery it doesn’t go down very well now, so I shall have to look for something a bit less gender specific (if an apron can be gender specific)! He’s grown out of the one that said ‘Nanny’s Little Helper’ on the front ?.

The only time I ever wore aprons was when I did care work - and I had to wear the plastic disposable sort.

Other than that, I've never owned or worn one.

Meant to also ask if any one still wears a petticoat? I still have 2 half slips but never wear them now even though it was unthinkable to go without one years ago!

Yes, I always wear one for cooking. Don't like the idea of food and grease stains on my clothes.

Only when I'm making pastry or doing something mucky like cleaning the oven.
