Santa baby......??

Anya Yes indeed my son grew into a thoughtful man too. He still always buys me flowers on his birthday to say thank you for having (and raising) him. His daughter on the other hand is rather unusual. After asking for broccoli for her birthday she has requested an extra toe for Christmas 'because 5 toes just look ridiculous!' (She is 7 years old).

Mine bought me a wheelbarrow!

I once got a pressure cooker for Christmas from my paternal grandma. I was 20 ! It was just what I always wanted.

I love that Anya my DD (31) is unicorn mad. I would send it to her if I knew how. and [scratching head emoticon]

Presents as such are practically obsolete in our family. I don't even like my husband to get me flowers as he gets a ready-bound bunch in rainbow colours, whereas I would prefer a single stem or at least a single colour.

But the Hoover would be fine as a present if a new one was due around Christmas, but the going to the shop and choosing it together is the nice part. I might find a couple of little things (CDs or DVDs, some headphones or a smoothie-maker) that I REALLY want, whilst we're there. Who pays for it is immaterial.

Anya One of my most treasured gifts I still have. A slip of paper from my (then) 8 year old son on which is written, "piece and quite." It was on my bedside table on Christmas morning and it was what I had asked for! It did not actually happen as the children erupted onto my bed with their stockings but the thought was there! (Peace and Quiet in case you didn't get it!)

I remember the Hoover jingle cherrytree and the slightly altered version which went "All the dirt, all the grit, all the shavings and the - sawdust! Hoover beats as it sweeps as it cleans"!

At my husbands request I make a Christmas list and if it has jewellery on it we go together to buy it. This year I have chosen a fancy silver necklace which then disappears and reappears wrapped on Christmas morning! This keeps us both happy

Hey what's wrong with gifts that make your life easier or are things you can't afford yourself? I was delighted when my sons bought me a hoover, a food mixer and a water butt which I had said I needed. I must admit I was less pleased when my ex bought me long handled shears so I didn't have to bend down and trim the edges of the lawn when I was heavily pregnant though that may have been for other reasons too!

Jewellery is all very nice but I rarely go out so don't get the chance to wear it. Bath smellies bring me out in a rash and chocolates make me fat or sick. I quite like perfumes but tend to buy my own at heavily reduced prices. Mind you alcohol does go down well - maybe a little too well!

My sister asked for a garden incinerator a couple of years ago. About time for a new one I think.

hildajenniJ when my children lived at home they always had a new toothbrush in their Christmas stockings. Last year my daughter asked me to buy her an electric one and this year her brothers and my daughter in law have also been bought one each for Christmas!
p.s. They did drop me hints - if you can call saying 'I'd really like an electric toothbrush for Christmas' a hint!

I don't know how I contained myself the Christmas morning when I unwrapped a digital air compressor for inflating car tyres, especially as I thought by the size and shape of it that it was the tablet I'd been hoping for.

A friend of mine used to get things like washing machines, fridges, freezers, a cooker, etc., for Christmas and birthday presents, and cards made up on the computer. Her (now ex) husband never did understand why she was less than thrilled with his offerings.
Many years ago, when we hadn`t been married very long, my husband went on a day trip to Blackpool with his workmates, knowing full well that I was unhappy about it. We arranged for me to be at the phone box on the corner at a certain time so he could ring me. He told me he`d got me a present. He had, it was a shopping bag!

I was none to pleased with a deep fat fryer bought for me by DH some years back. I remind him annually that it was the most cr*p present he has ever bought me - SO THERE

Oh how true roses. I think the Hoover ranks alongside the electric toothbrush my dearly beloved bought me some years ago. I did want a new one but not for Christmas.

I used to have a neighbour who was very upset one Christmas ( she and her DH had a flaming row) because he bought her a pressure cooker.He was a lovely man, and was very hurt, as she had been saying for ages that she wanted one.Men do try and think what their DW's would like ( but don't always get it right.)

Yes and time to cook his favourite meal, polish his shoes and entertain him in the bedroom. Man was king and it's still a bit like that here in France.

Think of it, though.
If you didn't have a Hoover (other makes probably not available) as that lady likely didn't, wouldn't you be thrilled to get one for Xmas?
And it would give her more time to make herself beautiful, ready for his return from work!

That's top of my list along with a new iron and ironing board. What's not to love about new kitchen equipment?

I expect my husband to be delighted with the new rubber gloves and apron I have bought him (well, gloves are faux fur trimmed and apron is very MANLY)
