My son in law's safe return from a 7 month deployment - I shall sleep better at night now.

For some time now I've been feeling very fragile as there are currently a number of worrying/upsetting family circumstances to be navigated. It has meant me being away from home on a regular basis to care for a relative (not my mother for those of you who have been following that particular saga) and I'm fairly tired out. So, I have given myself a little talking to and decided that instead of dwelling on the negatives I should be counting my blessings and having my son in law home safely is definitely that!

So, what in particular are you grateful for?

Today I am very grateful that the suspected cancer in my husband's bowel came back as non-malignant!
He has been in hospital for 3 weeks today, and I was beginning to wonder if he would be coming home at all at one point, because he had lost over 3 stone in weight since September - but today I shall visit with a smile on my face and genuinely mean it.

I am grateful for my fantastic husband who helps me and supports me and my fantastic daughter who is beyond belief my gorgeous son in law who is like my second son our son who is my rock and the wonderful friends who are family to me. I am grateful that my bowel cancer check wass clear and I am able to do stuff even though I am in pain. It had been a difficult year losing my precious mum this year and seeing my dad so lost but we have all stuck tog. So hopefully this beautiful time of year and my gorgeous precious grandson will heal the sad ness happy Christmas to you all

My reasons to be grateful today are:
The sun's coming out
We're giving my DM a surprise lunch party at their house (2 months ago she was very poorly but has recovered a little)
My DSis's recovery from a brain tumour is now heading in the right direction after a very scary few months.

I am even grateful I can correct my post but not for predictive text.

I am so fateful that I can now walk without grinding pain and for the research and the medical team who made it possible. Just a TKR but a small miracle to me.

My h has been unwell for some time and he has had lots of tests. We found out he has to have a pacemaker fitted. Which will be in the next two weeks. Very greatful that at last things have been sorted.

Am feeling really unhappy due to relocation three months ago. We are now living very near DD2 and her lovely and loving family. I was so excited prior to the move and now am missing my old life really badly.
So this thread has been an excellent wake-up call. I have so many blessings to count.
I am receiving so much support, our family is all fit and healthy, we will all be together for Christmas, I am making new friends, we have beautiful beaches to walk on, the geese fly overhead morning and evening etc etc.
Note to self: pull yourself together woman!!

I am grateful to be here one year after diagnosis and to be told last Thursday that the blood clots in my lungs are being controlled by the anticoagulants. Even if I don't leave the house today it will still be a good day.

I am grateful for good health. That my DIL has stopped being so sick with her first child. That people are responding to the Conference that I foolishly have organised ( why didn't I keep my mouth shut)
That at last we have a date for returning to my wrecked home which was flooded last December. What a terrible year we have had but now can see some light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you thankyou.

i, too, am grateful to be alive!
i'm also grateful for my daughter, son, daughter in law and four lovely grandaughters.
i'm grateful that i'm able to see, hear and speak and, although painful right now, that i'm able to walk and get things done.
i'm also grateful that i actually do have enough money to celebrate christmas, easter, birthdays and treating people [and myself].
however i'm not grateful for the current cold snap - HATE being cold!

Glad to hear of his safe return GA . As an ex military family I know it's an amazing feeling when they return safe and sound .

So I'm grateful for your good news.

And I'm grateful for my DH of 40 years , for all he is to me and all he does for me . And I'm grateful for a warm and loving family both near and far. Reading some of the sad ,sad stories of estrangement and anger make me grateful every day that it's not me or mine .

Marmight and Marelli flowers sunshine
I'm grateful that I have a loving family and that I get to see them often. Never take it for granted.

Teetime Fri 02-Dec-16 08:46:40

That I haven't been called back for an urgent hysteroscopy- seems I can be put on the 'routines' list - I take comfort from that.

Bellasnana Fri 02-Dec-16 08:43:11

At present I'm back in my old hometown, Chester, and am overwhelmed with gratitude for so many wonderful friends who have made time for me. It has been a very humbling experience.

Anya Fri 02-Dec-16 07:58:52

I'm grateful for the grandchildren I have left.

NanKate Fri 02-Dec-16 07:28:26

I am grateful for my DH of 45 years, DS safely back from China. That we have a warm house, which reminds me it is the time of year we contribute to the charity for homeless young people. I am truly blessed particularly when I read of some of the situations GN members are in.

BBbevan Fri 02-Dec-16 07:07:41

I have several friends who are widows, and I read the posts of many on here. So I am grateful I still have DH and that we are both in reasonable health. Also that my DGD no1 , who has had such a bad time with friends at school is now getting some help.

Marelli Fri 02-Dec-16 06:13:40

Marmight, some flowers for you. x
I'm grateful that my DD has met a lovely lady who she will go to live with at the end of the year. She will be living in Limerick, and I will miss her so much, but her happiness and knowing that she is being loved and cared for, is all I want.

Marmight Fri 02-Dec-16 03:23:05

I am grateful for the 38 years I had with DH. It would have been our anniversary today and I am trying to look on the positive rather than the negative side. I am also grateful that in 2 weeks my DD,SiL and gc's will be arriving from Oz and we will all be together for a big family Christmas. The excitement is mounting..... so many things to be grateful for especially when hearing the daily news of war, famine, illness and disaster
