I have had such a lovely afternoon

The sky was a wintery blue, the sun was shining. It was cold with almost no breeze and I spent two hours in the garden raking leaves.

It is completely my most favourite gardening job, gently raking the leaves into piles, smelling the leaves and the damp earth

We have a large garden with quite a lot of trees in and around it, so the job takes quite a time, a couple of hours each day this week hopefully. DH would come out and help me but he knows I am at my happiest doing it on my own. By the time I finished the sun was beginning to slide and the sun was very yellow and the little clouds peach and grey.

DH and I then took two huge sacks of leaves to the tip and then came home and I am now at my desk drinking tea, but the mood of quiet contentment remains with me and the promise of more leaf raking tomorrow.

Sadly we've had a sad day
We are preparing to bury our beloved dog Ellie who had CDRM, a slow killer, near to our other much loved dogs. It's been so beautiful here in the country but ...we do so love our dogs

We have an ancient garden Hoover which minced the leaves into very small pieces. After "hoovering" I unzip the collection bag and scatter it on the flower beds. Seems to work very well.

What you describe is what experts call 'being in the moment' and is apparently so good for your well being. Mypennyfarthing41 I am sorry for you, when you love your dogs the loss never gets any easier X

By close of play this afternoon (the back garden is a full five day fixture) 8 large builders bags had been filled with leaves, with one still to come. That is despite leaving all the beds with a good mulch of leaves and one corner piled up specially as hibernating hedgehogs have been known to use it.

Then I still have the front to do, which will produce nearly as much. My aim is always to try and get most of the leaves gathered up before Christmas.

This week the weather has been perfect for leaf gathering, bright, sunny, cold and calm. Balm for body and soul

Thank you Nana 58, for your kind response - believe me it helps to know someone understands.
