do you buy your husband's clothes?

I keep an eye out in the charity shops and my husband lets me know when he needs something in particular. In this way I buy most of his shirts and just yesterday he asked me to look out for some smart trousers for him. Other than an occasional jumper or shirt for Christmas and birthdays that would be the sum total of my shopping for him. He has to dress reasonably smartly for work when he's in the office, smart casual when he's on site and, fortunately rarely, suited and booted if he's meeting bigwigs. At home he dresses from an assortment of tatty clothes that were okay until he didn't bother to change before doing some messy job or other - clothes are not on his list of priorities.

My daughter buys DH more clothes than I do. Only this morning, we went through a great pile of sweaters she had bought him over the years for birthdays and Father's Days, many of which he hadn't worn. Ditto casual shirts. I think she has a good eye for what suits him, but he doesn't always like them! He tends to wear one or two things to death and then I throw them away because I'm sick of seeing him in them. I do go with him when he buys outdoor clothes. We walk a lot and for years he wore the same Army issue boots, thermals and socks that saw him through two winters in the Falklands until I dragged him kicking and screaming to buy some decent stuff.

My DH , though no Brad Pitt, is vain and loves clothes so buys all of his own. He has very good (traditional) taste and is usually the smartest person wherever he goes. Although he has seventeen pairs of shoes under the bed (many, many more than mine) he was looking at new shoes again on Saturday. This time I put him off as they were really expensive, he can get them in the sales and his birthday and Christmas are coming up so he could have some as presents.

On the minus side he has so many clothes he cannot fit them in the drawers or wardrobe and he spends a lot of our joint money on himself.

On the plus side, it is very nice to be with a well turned out chap, especially when so many men of his age are 'brown cardigan man'.

If I didn't buy my OH's clothes, or, at the very least, guide him towards good choices, he would be decked in clashing, technicolor as he is colour blind.

I used to buy most of DH's clothes as he hated clothes shopping - favoured the casual look although if the occassion arose he "scrubbed up well"

Rarely chose anything himself but I would only buy what I knew he liked or ask his opinion first

Left to his own devices hubby would be wearing track suit pants and a gardening jumper with shirt with frayed collar ....I have to ask him to chang if we are going out .....he was 68 when we met, and really smart. He is now 84 and hates clothes shopping. When he buys something (jumper, trousers, etc) I go back next day and buy an identical item ....then I can grab the grubby one to wash ! Every thing he does buy he complains about the minute he gets it home ..sleeves too long, legs too long, etc etc ...he refuses to try anything on in the shop ' too much hassle taking all your clothes off' so if ever anything fits it is a miracle ! bless him ! So yes, I do buy clothes for him ...just thathe doesn't know ! If I do buy anything as a present,without him knowing, it always has to be returned .....

I remember my dad going out to buy a short sleeved shirt for his holidays. He accidently bought a pyjama top. None of us had the nerve to tell him so he wore it happily.

Speaking as "the husband", I do all my own clothes buying - apart from the occasional jumper at Christmas. We are usually together when we go shopping but neither of us takes responsibility for the other's choices. Why would you?

No I don't buy OH's clothes and he would not take my advice anyway. He chooses his own which suits me, except for the flat hat which he tries to wear when we go out but I make him take it off. I hate them.

Nothing to do with him being a child!
He is just not interested in clothes (too busy working) and would wear anything which vaguely fits. On the other side I love clothes and fashion so we go together when I can get him there and he is only too pleased for me to tell him what looks nice. Consequently he is well dressed and gets many compliments on his clothes.

He buys his own clothes, but I do sometimes buy an item as a present, usually a jumper.

If I didn't buy clothes for my husband he would have spent the last 37years buck naked?

Yes. A). He asks me to.
B). He would otherwise have a wardrobe full of 70s clothes about 3 sizes too small.
C). He can't tell the difference between grey and green or brown and red.

I buy some of my husband's clothes, and he buys some for me, which are always lovely. He does have some help from DDs. ?

It goes against the grain but I buy my husbands clothes because if I didn't he would always look as if he was about to do the garden. That said, he lives in plain colour t-shirts (polo necks December - March) and casual trousers. He has a couple of sports jackets which he inherited when a relative died and he wears these if he needs to look smarter. I have to say that I don't dress to match his casual look so we sometimes look an odd pair!
