Poetry??
It really isn’t much to ask,
To grow a veg or three.
It seems that almost everyone
Can do it - why not me?
I work the soil (what does that mean?)
And mulch it when I can
But it’s hard to do it on my own
I really need a man.
A Dermot or an Alan would
Be cause for celebration
Or at a push a Monty Don
I’d use them in rotation.
If they could simply help me out
To cultivate one seed
Then I would stand guard every day
And fight with every weed
With just one veg I’d be content,
Life wouldn’t seem so cruel,
Then I could hold my head up high,
And not seem such a fool
If I could grow just one small thing,
I’m really not ambitious,
An onion or a small courgette
Now that would be delicious!!!
But as it is I am consigned
To vegetable obscurity
To lurk amongst my empty beds
Unfilled for perpetuity
I think I’ll dig my veg bed up
Replace it with a seat
And buy some veg - ‘cos now I see
I’ll simply have to cheat!!!
