that laughing at DH'S (much older!) brother because he is about to become a great grandfather isn't really funny as it means that I am about to become a GREAT GREAT aunt shock

Now I really do need a granny perm, a rocking chair and some knitting!

tanith Sun 20-Nov-16 10:56:13

You just have to roll with the punches kittylester I was made a GreatGreatGrandmother twice in the last two years I haven't felt the need to buy a rocking chair yet but I do knit grin and the I straighten out my 'grannyperm' because its entirely natural smile.

tanith Sun 20-Nov-16 10:57:35

Oh dear meant to add CONGRATULATIONS on your GG Grannyship smile

merlotgran Sun 20-Nov-16 12:00:21

Why do great or great great aunts sound so old and doddery?

The fictional ones usually leave shedloads of money to unsuspecting heroines but no chance here because my great nephews are richer than I am grin

Jalima Sun 20-Nov-16 12:32:25

I am a bit doddery at the moment and possibly could be termed as old grin

I can't see me ever reaching the status of Great-Grandmother but I am a Great-Great Aunt grin

Jalima Sun 20-Nov-16 12:36:25

tanith smile

ditto re the knitting
and ditto re the natural granny perm which I have just been trying to straighten this morning!

Congratulations kittylester!

I'm NOT about to become a great grandmother but a GREAT GREAT aunt. I think it's the extra great that did it!!

I've actually been a great aunt for nearly 30 years and probably thought it was funny to get such a title at the age of around 40. My most recent great nephew is only 4 weeks old.

M0nica Sun 20-Nov-16 15:07:27

Count your blessings! I will never be a great aunt, let alone a great great aunt as I have no nieces or nephews.

I am equally unlikely to ever be a great-grandma. I didn't become a grandmother until I was 63 and given my families tradition of delaying the good things in life, like having children, until our 30s I will have to live to close on 100 before I make it up another generation.

tanith Sun 20-Nov-16 15:36:09

Oh dear my apologies I don't know where my head was this morning I am NOT a great great grandmother at all just a Great Grandmother to two lovely boys...

I obviously was not concentrating kittylester I'm so sorry.. but CONGRATULATIONS on your Great Great Auntship blush

kittylester Sun 20-Nov-16 15:56:53

Like I said - it's the extra great wot dun it! Tanith grin

KatyK Sun 20-Nov-16 17:00:21

My sister became a great aunt to my DGD at 42. It does make a person sound ancient, but it's rather lovely smile

Maggiemaybe Sun 20-Nov-16 17:42:50

I became a great aunt at 39, but with my family history doubt if I'll make GG-hood. My eldest DGS came into the world with a full set of 4 great grandparents and an extra step great grandma for good measure on DSIL's side. Just DH and I on our side, sadly - all my DGP were gone before I reached 18.

Maggiemaybe Sun 20-Nov-16 17:45:50

And my DP when I was in my 30s - I'm getting the greats mixed up too grin

kittylester Sun 20-Nov-16 18:13:10

Well, of course, we are all absolutely great! grin

?? I can just picture you kitty. Would you like me to tuck another blanket round you just to keep you warm in your rocker. Can't afford to let you catch a chill at your great age grin

rubylady Sun 20-Nov-16 22:51:10

Well, I'm still a young whippersnapper, only an Aunt up to now. grin

Grandma2213 Mon 21-Nov-16 01:03:03

I was a late starter so I'm only a grandma but I am a great aunt. Congratulations kittylester - surely a great great aunt is twice as good and can well afford to be 'different' and eccentric! Dye your hair purple and take up sky diving (or whatever floats your boat!)

Sheilasue Mon 21-Nov-16 10:51:29

I'm a grandmother and a great Aunt and a great great Aunt. No rocky no chair for me or a perm.

Legs55 Mon 21-Nov-16 11:56:09

I became a Step-Nanny at 40 but only actually became a Nanny to my DGS at 54. No Nephews or Nieces. My DM became a Great-Granny at 81 - don't know whether I'll ever reach that exaulted status - hope I live long enough grin

Congratulations to you Great Great Aunts & Great Grandmas out there flowers

MammaN Mon 21-Nov-16 12:00:35

I've been a great aunt for 30+ years so no doubt could be a GGA if he got his act together. In fact he's bucking their family trend for very early reproduction. His Grandma became a Grandma at 39 and her mother GGGrandma at 56.

Gaggi3 Mon 21-Nov-16 12:31:04

I was an aunt at 5 and a great-aunt at 22. One of my nieces had 10 children and I have somewhat lost track of their progeny. Am definitely a great-great aunt, and possibly into 3 greats. Very unlikely to be a great gran though, as DGC are only 8 and 2.

Yorkshiregel Mon 21-Nov-16 14:00:50

My 16 yr old GS is my only chance of becoming a GGM. The others are all too young, unless of course I reach the magic 100! Not much chance really as this boy is only just in the lower 6th form, and wants to go to Uni. Even then he may want to get a second degree, so pie in the sky for me I think. I would have loved to be there to see a GGC. Those who have are so, so lucky.

DotMH1901 Mon 21-Nov-16 14:25:49

I became an Aunt as soon as I was born as my older half sister had already had her first child. I am a gt gt Aunt to three lovely little girls - my late husband was born quite some time after his two sisters (my lovely m-i-l having been told she couldn't have anymore children after she miscarried twins) so they were having their own children whilst he was still quite young - my eldest nephew is only eight years younger than me and I have a niece who is only two years younger than I am.

Foxyferret Mon 21-Nov-16 15:01:49

Congratulations Kitty. We have 5 generations alive and kicking. I am great grandmother at 64 and my mother is a great great grandmother at 90. We all love it in our family, my mum always says it's because we had a good start in life. Not necessarily material things, just being very loved and cared for properly. Years ago my old doctor said we all had a good undercarriage which made me laugh. I like being great, so enjoy being great great Kitty.

chrissyh Mon 21-Nov-16 16:35:06
