Soon the shops will be playing Christmas songs on a loop and I have been known to leave a shop playing this one as it drives me potty- Little Drummer Boy.. Big Crosby and David Bowie - cant stand either of these singers and the song is so morbid. What's your worst Christmas song?

there are two cd's that I play constantly at Christmas, well from Dec 1st when I start putting up the decorations, the Sarah McLachlan WINTERSONG album which is beautiful, not commercial but lovely words and melodies all sung ina wonderful voice, and Thea Gilmores Strange Communion which has my favourite winter song on it Sol Invictus .If you haven't heard these you should check them out on Youtube

Yes, I quite like the Jonah song too.smile

No real problem with any Christmas songs (although there isn't one I really couln't live without hearing!). But doesn't feel like Christmas till the first time I hear Jona Lewie's Stop the Cavalry. However, my worst song ever - much worse than Mistletoe and Wine is Cliff's Millennium Prayer!

Rosannie Thu 17-Nov-16 23:57:18

I particularly dislike Slade - its Christmas!

Rosannie Thu 17-Nov-16 23:54:38

That's me, I like John Rutter!

The "Sussex Carol" is probably my favourite.

(It's this one.)

On Christmas night all Christians sing
to hear the news the angels bring.
On Christmas night all Christians sing
to hear the news the angels bring:
news of great joy, news of great mirth,
news of our merciful King’s birth.
(3 more verses, short and very much to the message, with a good tune.) It is a good sing.

Some of the ones set up for our next concert are dire. All John Rutter's carols, or arrangements by him.
I do not want to hear another of his carols EVER! All the same format and style. Choir people on here will probably know them. Some may even like them.

DaphneBroon Thu 17-Nov-16 21:53:07

I do love "O Holy Night " and any of the traditional carols.

Linsco56 Thu 17-Nov-16 21:47:44

I too like Fairytale of NY.
Also like Mary's Boy Child sung by Harry Belefonte.
Can't abide Santa Baby whether sung by Eartha Kitt, Kylie Minogue or anyone else!

Have yourself a merry little Christmas.

Wobblybits Thu 17-Nov-16 20:47:29

Every Christmas our ukulele group are in demand for various events, many of them want Christmas songs "cringe" that is not what we do, but we do include a few old rock Christmas songs.

Katek Thu 17-Nov-16 20:11:53

It has to be The Lord's Prayer as performed by Sir Cliff. Just cringeworthy.

Jayh Thu 17-Nov-16 18:54:29

My favourite has to be Wudolph, the Wed nose Weindeer as my GD used to sing when she was 3.
I dont like White Christmas, Feed The World, Mistletoe and Wine but I do like traditional Christmas hymns.

rosesarered Thu 17-Nov-16 18:50:46

NotTooOld I agree about the 'I gev you my heart' song, and am not usually a pedant, but somehow it annoys me.There is also another song, with a female singer who always sings 'choo' for 'you'....grrrr.

grannypiper Thu 17-Nov-16 18:44:40

when santa got stuck up the chimney, jingle bells, little jacky jack frost,Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, i spent years teaching these to many classes of 3 year olds. Dont get me wrong i loved listening to them singing them during the nativity play and the singing of my 24 angels was so lovely and always brought tears to my eyes. It was the 6 weeks of practise that really brought made me cry

shandi6570 Thu 17-Nov-16 18:38:54

I don't like Mistletoe and Wine or Fairytale of New York but I love Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee and the Kim Wilde and Mel Smith version for Comic Relief. I'm just an old rocker at heart and a sucker for all the Christmas tat grin.

hulahoop Thu 17-Nov-16 18:19:50

Fed up of hearing here it is merry Christmas and last year I gave you my heart as well notTooold think we could do with some new ones but not JC

nannypink1 Thu 17-Nov-16 18:09:34

So you did Ana. It's just awful. So it's quite likely to be voted no 1....... like Honey G ...but that's a different show! The world's gone mad...x

callgirl1 Thu 17-Nov-16 17:45:46

I love Mistletoe and Wine, the Slade record and Roy Wood`s. What I absolutely love hearing, although it wasn`t meant as a Christmas record, is Johnny Mathis singing When a Child is Born, gets me every time.

NotTooOld Thu 17-Nov-16 16:02:03

an not am

NotTooOld Thu 17-Nov-16 16:01:25

What's that one that goes 'Last Christmas I GEV you my heart.....la, la, la'? That GEV is so annoying to a pedant such as myself.
I did read that even Noddy Houlder (Holder?) detests 'Here it is, Merry Christmas......' but, of course, it is his pension so he can't hate it too much. When the horrible Christmas music started up in one of our local shops whilst I was in there two weeks ago, I remarked to one of the assistants that it must really get on her nerves. 'Oh, no', she said 'I love it all'. I slunk away with my tail between my legs. What am old misery I must have become.

Greyduster Thu 17-Nov-16 15:34:06

I don't like any of them, I'm afraid, except 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas'. As for the JC one...... I hope his embarrassment knows no bounds!

grannylyn65 Thu 17-Nov-16 15:33:46

Love Fairytale of NY!

kittylester Thu 17-Nov-16 15:01:09

I can't believe that's real!shock

gillybob Thu 17-Nov-16 14:45:20

I now have a different worst ever xmas song thanks to Ana's link.

It sounds like a combination of Down by the Old Bull and Bush and Knees up Mother Brown. Just off to boil my head in something hot and sticky....

A Corbyn isn't just for Christmas (mores the pity)he would have gone away by January.

Ana Thu 17-Nov-16 14:44:39

That's the one roses mentioned and it's in the link I posted, nannypink! grin
