Poppy dillemma

I never ever wear one. My father fought in the Far East during WW2 and was adamant that he would never wear a poppy - he said he did not want to remember or be remembered. He hated the militaristic elements of Remembrance Day "celebrations" as do I - march pasts and gun salutes - how very inappropriate. He was also appalled that the state (who sent them to war) did not pick up the full tab for the care of veterans, but needed British Legion fundraising. Out of respect for my father (now dead) I do not wear a poppy.

So, here is the dilemma. I am singing in a concert tomorrow evening (nothing to do with remembrance day) and the choir have voted for everyone to wear a poppy on stage. I belie3ve in democracy and it was an overwhelming vote; but I am finding that I feel quite strongly that I should not sing. I am surprised at how emotional I feel about this. I do not want to stand out as the only person not wearing one and feel that I should accept the vote of the majority.

So.....what do I do?
