Coming to a major department store near you.

We were in JL recently looking at lighting. A very knowledgable lady took us through the ins and outs of various types of bulbs and fittings, and just as we were about to go, i thought of something else to ask. She wasn't around, but I collared a smart young man who said he would find out. He went straight to a computer and was on there for ages when the original lady came back and saw that we were still there. I explained we were waiting for the lad (for such was he) to find the answer and she gave it to us without even thinking about it. I thanked the young man for taking up his time. I'm sure he was good at other stuff!

John Lewis in Liverpool is nothing like as good as George Henry Lee used to be.

Haberdashery hardly there, but worse is the sheer confusion of the clothes floor - just so impossible to know where you are, just one big space with nothing to latch on to to let you find things.

I've more or less given up visiting - just buy online now.

George Henry Lee buildings were a bit odd, but easy to find your way around. I think a lot of women in Liverpool miss the old store and hate the new one.

There are far less department stores around than there used to be. I miss Allders. Nowadays it is mostly Debenhams with perfume, clothes and kitchenware. Department stores used to sell a much wider range of goods. Oxford Street is my nearest John Lewis and they still have a good range but the only other branch I've been to is very small with little choice.

Catch 22.. the more we shop online the fewer choices on the Hgh St. if we want our High St we have to use it!

I didn't know there were department stores still, how very old-fashioned!
I shop locally but that doesn't include any department stores (market town, miles from a big town)
