I had five babies (like Kitty I had 6 pregnancies) over the course of nineteen years; the last arriving when I was 38. By then I was definitely ready to stop.

Only had one, may have had another if we could have afforded it, but never been one of the baby mad women so am happy with what I had.

After 5 I decided enough was enough, and took steps. My doctor didn`t believe in birth control, he thought the more the merrier, so I rang the family planning clinic and arra nged sterilisation, but the doctor, lovely man though he was, was very disappointed in me, I think he looked forward to me coming to the surgery for the little pill that would "start" me off if I wasn`t pregnant, because he always knew it wasn`t going to work!

I had five healthy babies and one stillborn daughter. I loved having babies and adored the toddler stage. Adolescence had its moments!!!

Well, what has actually happened in richer countries and what is beginning to happen in developing countries (birth rates falling as people become better off) does not bear out what your son says, morgana. I think the evidence speaks for itself. There will be exceptions (individual ones) to the general rule, of course.

It took me 12 years to get 2. I would have loved a 3rd but it just didn't happen. I have always regretted it and still dream often of being pregnant even now.

Same here, MaizieD. DS2 had bowel problems which made him crotchety, though he was really a lively and charming little boy. A big operation when he was 2 sorted him out but by that time I had gone off the idea of having a third. He and his partner have given me two lovely grandsons.

No, my three children were enough.I really don't think that all that many women are pumpkin eaters (the US term for this.)

I would have liked to have had three but number 2 spent her first 4 months crying nonstop from 8pm until about 2am. I got so tired and depressed at the time that I begged my DP not to let me have another baby and he took me at my word!

(The howling baby turned into the most delightful and easy child so I didn't bear any grudge; especially as she has now presented me with a wonderful grandson!)

No thanks 3 was plenty and it was a long enough job bringing them up till they could fly the nest.
