Anyone on Facebook?

I love FB....it does allow me to cyber stalk my children and to keep in touch with far more people than otherwise I would.

My dog has his own page.............and had more friends than me on it.

It is what you make it.

I love FB it's my lifeline when I can't get out I have started groups of like minded people I have stated a school group and found 70 people who were still interested in their school after 65 odd years.. I started a humanitarian aid group and now have nearly 400 local members working together for the same cause
I use the free phone and video facilities to talk to my friends overseas
I keep in touch with peripheral friends who I don't necessarily meet much, I also belong to a local photographic group and a local history group I see all the up and coming stuff happening in my neighbourhood, new shops opening or closing, the local weather and events,
I sell and buy things without eBay fees
I play games especially word games that keeps me on my toes I play scrabble with random folk around the world ( they only know you by a nickname and don't get to see your profile)it works well for me I keep my privacy settings tight and in about 10 years of being a member I ve never had any trouble at all

I cannot think of any polite words here to describe FB, I think from that comment you can guess my opinion of it

I use Facebook and it's good to keep in touch with old friends and family who I would rarely see otherwise. I am also on several groups both for the area I live in and things I'm interested in. I don't post much myself, just respond to others posts but do enjoy it.

I use Facebook daily to keep up with family photographs. One of my daughters is better than I with computers so I asked her to give me the maximum security settings. I haven't had any problems - yet.

Don't be over concerned about being un-friended. It happens, not sure why. But 2 very, very close family members were un-friended and asked jokingly why I had un-friended them. I had no idea what happened and signed them up again.

Yes, get your security settings on quickly.

Don't accept any friends requests from people you don't know well. Start with just a couple of good friends or family members.

It's a great way to keep in touch and see photos. Be wary of being drawn into any groups, especially private ones. Some very disturbed people out there so steer clear of them.

I'm on Facebook. I use it mainly to keep in touch with family and relatives scattered across the globe. I get those "people you might know" messages, but tend to ignore them. I'm friends with one or two Romanians that I used to work with, so now people I might know include lots of eastern Europeans. I'm not bothered about them in the slightest. I think I've recently been un friended by someone, but I've no idea why!

I have a Facebook page, but it's so long since I went on there that I can't even remember my password now! I really should close it down, as I only opened it to try to contact a former friend and that proved fruitless. I really can't be a***d with social media (unless GN counts as social media!!), though I will look at Ladybower Fisheries Facebook page from time to time to drool at all the pictures of monster fish they are pulling out of there - the ones which always seem to elude me when I fish there!!

I love facebook too am on a couple of private groups to with sewing and it's great fun. We also have a private group page for residents of my street and we can post things we want to give away or requests for plumbers etc.

I agree with others get your settings in order and it will be a totally different experience

I'm on Facebook and I quite enjoy it but you do have to get your settings right and its worth spending some time doing that. There are many groups you can join- I'm in a book club and have made lots of contacts here and America and Australia. we talk of books, cakes, beautiful views, family all nice things definitely not politics or anything contentious its a warm and fuzzy place. I also manage a page for a local charity which gives them free advertising and promotions. I really would persevere Facebook can be used very positively but get your settings write so all this other stuff is screened out.

I'm on Facebook and like fiorentina51 it's just to keep in touch with family and friends who are a lot busier than I am. I go on there to see what photos of the kids my daughter has posted.

If you change your security setting to friends only you won't get all that other crap.

Top right of the page, click on the little padlock, click 'basic settings' set all to friends only. With that the only people to see your page or send stuff to it are those on your friends list including family.

A lot of that other crap is automated and will just keep popping up unless you change your settings.

I was quite addicted to FB and found I was wasting an awful lot of time on it. In the early days I didn't seem to get a lot of notifications but I think over the past few years, things have changed and I found it really irritating. I agree though that it can be useful when trying to keep in touch with far flung family and friends.
On the other hand I think there can be downsides to being on FB, not least when you have people living out their lives in public and including comments that can spark quite unpleasant outcomes.
I eventually weaned myself off it and now only visit FB 2 or 3 times a month. My nearest and dearest now keep in touch by e mail, text, Skype, Messenger, phone or even, sometimes, a letter!

I think you need to go through your security settings. You can stop friend requests and notifications from the public and if you make your page totally private no one will be able to see it.

The ones I get are usually friends of friends but there has been an increase in the number of Indians and American servicemen by their photos
It doesn't bother me I just click them off. FB keeps me in touch with the family, without it I wouldn't know what was going on.

I've had more of these than usual recently and I'm getting fed up with it. Some of them are of pretty sleazy looking women and some of them are in an Arabic script, occasionally they are friends of friends, but not often.
