That was a hard three weeks

Although I'm a fairly regular poster on MN, I lurked for quite a while here before I joined about three weeks ago. In that time I've been called a precious snowflake; accused of having a fit of the vapours ; being incredibly snobby, being satisfied to have something at which to take offence, creating a storm in a teacup, sniping, jumping in on one side or the other straightaway ( as a new poster) but you know the one thing that has really cut me to the quick was being accused of only knowing about 'six quid bottles ( of wine ) from the supermarket'. Anyway, will be having a break now for a few days and when I come back, I promise to behave better and to have drunk some more expensive wine

Casawan, I hope the misspelling of my name was just fat fingers and not a deliberate attempt to be rude.

Thank you for the compliment Anya, though being thought 'nice' is not necessarily a compliment. grin I do try to be 'nice' as none of us have any idea what people have going on in their real lives so should tread carefully until we know. Everyone has their cross to bear.

I think Elegran has put really well what I say every time we have one of these threads. No-one is saying that new posters shouldn't post but they should consider what they are saying before they charge in. They could easily upset someone thoughtlessly. Having been here a long time, I know some of what DB has going on (among many others on GN) and a glib remark can easily wound.

As far as stereotypes go:

I live in the Midlands and shop at Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Aldi and the Co-op - that even has me confused.

I have a cleaner - despite living in a 3 bed semi - because I don't like cleaning. grin

I haven't 'gone out to work' since I got married.

I have 5 children but don't live in a council house. grin

I have a black cat but no ferrets.

I too have an elderly mother (mine is 92 and has been on End of Life Care since January) who treated me appallingly but I see her regularly.

One of my daughters married an Idiot.

My eldest son had a stroke at the age of 35 while living on the other side of the world. His wife divorced him.

I hope I fit one of your stereotypes Casawan because I don't know anyone completely like me.

And, (thank you Ariadne) I am normally a happy-go-lucky person but I get really pissed off when people try to be clever and then can't back off when they have got it wrong!

Jalima Sun 30-Oct-16 16:37:39

kittylester smile

Not one of us is completely like anyone else.

Casawan Sun 30-Oct-16 16:44:59

Phew! Thank you both.

Casawan Sun 30-Oct-16 16:52:51

Kittylester - I genuinely hadn't seen the misprint in your name, so I am very sorry for that, but that is all I am sorry for.

DaphneBroon Sun 30-Oct-16 16:59:56

So tempting to call you kittylitter from now on though thlgrinthlgrin but it might not accord with my image of "assumed superiority" thlgrin
PSCasawan it is possible to like the theatre EVEN Shakespeare, without being an intellectual snob - especially when your DD works in it shock

kittylester Sun 30-Oct-16 17:11:05

Don't you bloody dare Db!!

DaphneBroon Sun 30-Oct-16 17:21:26

thlgrin ???

Jalima Sun 30-Oct-16 17:23:09

So sweet .....

Penstemmon Sun 30-Oct-16 18:46:21

Well, whilst waiting for the supper/ tea/dinner( I know that matters to some!) to cook and the OH to return from football I have had one eye on the TV (Cromwell!) and the other reading this thread..is that sad??confused

I like kittylesters sort of challenge to find a doppleganger!

I shop in Sainsbury/Waitrose/Co-op as my 3 local supermarkets, the local butcher, fishmonger and greengrocer and sometimes the local Farmer's Market too. If I am near a Lidl I pop in there for a few favourite items and plan to stock up on Stollen and Lebkuchen from there soon.
I still do have a cleaner because I am too daft to say I don't really need her now I am no longer working much having worked ft most of my working life.
I have just booked a trip to , hopefully, see the Northern Lights.
I have 2 x DD who live nearby with DGC
I do live in SE England in my own home with no pets (deceased sad but with my OH and one of my brothers who has mental health difficulties.
I like a glass of wine..if I like it I do not care if it cost under a fiver but would rarely pay over a tenner!!shock
I have just made my third lot of rhubarb gin grin

kittylester Sun 30-Oct-16 19:12:32

It's not you then penstemmon! grin

That's not funny Jalima thlgrin

Jalima Sun 30-Oct-16 19:24:04

Oh kitty I wouldn't upset you for the world!!

I am tearful (no, honestly!) Until I saw the grin

DH wants to know what on earth is the matter .....

Jalima Sun 30-Oct-16 19:33:21

Tonight's wine is a Spanish little number that came with a £10 meal from M&S

DH said hmm

absent Sun 30-Oct-16 19:56:34

I haven't been able to make much sense of this thread but it has left me feeling rather smug that I live within about 10 minutes' drive of a number of highly rated wineries.

Ana Sun 30-Oct-16 20:02:12

I don't think it's so much about the quality absent, more about the price! grin

Anya Sun 30-Oct-16 20:43:56

^g more unpleasant and tedious with every passing day.
'Not sure if it's a forum I want to be part of'.
Let's hope that if anyone flounces off in a puff of frustration she does in fact reach that conclusion and so the picking and shooting down may cease.
I see the arrows coming from a different source!^

mcem can you just clear something up. The extract above from your post, seems to be saying that you hope I rich the conclusion this isn't a forum I want to be part of, and that if I leave all this nastiness will stop.

Is that what you meant?

Ana Sun 30-Oct-16 20:57:52

Surely not? I can think of plenty of other solutions...hmm

Anya Sun 30-Oct-16 21:15:48

Oh to hell with it. I'm out of here, That last post by mcem wax the final straw. All I've tried to do is intervene between DB and casawan by pointing out the post was suppose to be an attempt at humour - which was misunderstood and backfired.

But obviously the PMs are flying.

May I point out Kitty that you know what's going on in some people lives because they point it out. You have no idea what's going on in those who prefer to keep things to themselves.

I will miss certain people, you know who you are, and especially those I've met up with, I will miss the meetings and others who may not know that I enjoy their posts, such as *Jud, mumofmadboys, Ceesnan, Stansgran, Absent, Bags, Elegran, maggiemaybd and other reasonable posters too numerous to mention.

I really won't be back this time, I've a lot I need to sort out in my life and things I need to organise.

kittylester Sun 30-Oct-16 21:26:00

I'm sorry you feel like that Anya. As I said, I try to be nice and, whilst realising that most don't post about everything in their lives, i am also aware that most people do have their own problems to contend with.

Ana Sun 30-Oct-16 21:29:05

You'll be missed, Anya, you and I have been through a lot together.

GN has changed so much though, especially recently. Good luck smile

mcem Sun 30-Oct-16 22:01:40

As you reqested a reply by pm - I quoted part of your earlier post and you seek clarification.
Yes!

Judthepud2 Sun 30-Oct-16 22:17:05

Oh Anya I am so sad you feel you need to go. Maybe you will come back to us again when you are feeling stronger. sad

Charleygirl Sun 30-Oct-16 22:20:14

Jalima who is your gorgeous furry friend?

Anya I also do not want to see you go. Please think about it overnight.

Maggiemaybe Sun 30-Oct-16 23:11:16

Oi, Anya, no shock Get yourself back on here sharpish. Gransnet's been a narky old place of late and the last thing it needs is fair and funny posters like you deserting it. Perhaps a glass or two of wine and some flowers might make you change your mind?

mumofmadboys Sun 30-Oct-16 23:23:03

Anya, please don't leave. Have a few days off and come back! I agree there have been quite a few narky posts recently.
