I no longer get batteries in my watch. I go to a cheap shop and buy a new watch for a fiver!

Are you sure the lower price was not a SO.? I stocked up and froze some Tesco English butter recently when it was on offer. There does seem to be a lot of scaremongering going on recently over prices of food and blaming the drop in the pound.How many of us waste food buying too much? and lets face it obesity is becoming a national problem and do we need so many fast food takeaways.?

We bought a set of tools on the well known auction site and some batteries, also got some magnifying glasses. Whole lot cost under a tenner. Wouldn't try and change the battery on my Michael Kors one though!

I would always ask 'how much, please?' before committing. Walking away is easy and ponderous for the salesperson but definitely nuisance factor in that it's something still needing done (ugh!)

I just Googled watch battery remover tool and found this on Ebay for £3.99, maybe replacing our own IS the way to go?

There are of course lots of others out there, so I think I might just give it a try myself.

Blimey Timpson cost a fortune, I wait until our local Saturday market, there's a man with a stall that costs me just £2.50 to have a new battery!

If you have a local branch of Timpsons they will give you a card when you buy a battery that entitles you to free batteries for the entire life that watch. I've had 3 for this watch so far & it s still going strong.

Our local market costs £2.50 for a new battery and fitting it. Or one of the discount shops charges £2 for a whole sheet of about 24 button batteries, but getting the back of my watch defeated me!

It was one of those 'swings and roundabout' situations. I was dropping DGS off in town where he was meeting friends so used Tesco's car park because of the Timpson's kiosk. I was very tempted to say, 'No Thanks!' when told the price but it would have meant another trip into town today (market day) to see if the watch repair man was there. He doesn't always turn up and parking is a nightmare.

We live eight miles out in the sticks so when you factor in the time and petrol, I was probably better off getting it done there and then.

Can't be without a watch though.

Debenhams has a kiosk for battery replacement. A few years ago I took a watch, which was a freebie from a make-up company, and they charged me £10 my expensive watches go to a jewellers for batteries and I tell them not to worry about waterproofing, who in their right mind would go swimming with a gold watch on their wrist ?

I lost my battery operated watch whilst out shopping. Went crying back to the car and phoned hubby. He had bought it for me when we first met. He promptly took me to the jewellers and bought me another - which you wind up - no batteries. Wonderful.

Watches ?? How old are we?????????? People have phones now and watches are like relics of a by gone age.

I have neither, can't stand stuff cluttering my life up.

My local jewellery shop replaces them for £1.

My son replaces mine for free. He has a market stall and I think he charges other customers £3. My watch is only a cheap one but he is unable to sort out some very expensive watches which have to go back to the manufacturers. I think that is a disgraceful rip off (*NanaandGrampy*) I wouldn't buy an expensive watch even if I had the money. After all they all only tell the time!

I have an Omega and the warranty is invalidated if anyone other than Omega do it...£75 gone in a heart beat !

Not always easy to change. Some watch backs screw off and you need some sort of tool (snipe nose pliers will do it), with snap off backs, they can be difficult to get back on. So unless you know what you are doing, let a shop do it. Places like Timpson don't charge a lot.

Not doable if you have a watch which needs the back removed/replaced with a special clamp thingy. (Did manage to remove such a back once. Blowed if I could put the thing back together though!)

Buy them on ebay and DIY! Costs peanuts.

I bought solar powered watches for DH and myself. Changing the batteries in waterproof watches were a real pain. Changing the time wasn't much better, as the seal had to be maintained.

DH gets a pack of watch batteries (quite a few batteries in them) from the pound shop and replaces batteries for all and sundry!

DH does ours sometimes (£1.50) otherwise our local jeweller is £4.50

I pay under a fiver to have my watch battery replaced. It is done by a small jewellery shop in the local shopping centre. He does an excellent business because his prices are so reasonable.
