Psychics do people harm, superstitions and belief in the occult cause real harm. Whatever OuiJas do to people's psyches, it can be very damaging for them. I don't really believe that "live and let live" applies with things that cause real harm and damage.

Oh no they haven't! We must agree to differ. I wouldn't dream of rubbishing some of the experiences related by other GNers on this thread among others.

supersitions/occult/otherside, just using it as an umbrella term for believing the old fashioned "spooky" explainations to things that have since largely been explained by maths and psychology etc.

Why try to wrap all these different experiences as 'superstition'? There is clearly far more to this than some can perceive. Believe what you want to. Your beliefs are not the only ones.

How about respecting other peoples hopes and not trying to squash them to fit with your particular beliefs? The dead hand of your particular logic may be trying (but not succeeding) in crushing something potentially extremely interesting. There is more in heaven and earth etc etc

Dreams: people have tens of thousands of dreams in their life time, the ones that bear no resemblance to their days don't get noted, but the odd one that statistically will appear to "come true" will be remembered

E.g. I've probably had 100s of dreams where a dog featured in it at some point, and I went on to have a normal day, but if I had another dream which featured a dog, and then a dog ran out in front of my car later that day - did I predict it in my dream? I don't think so, however I'll remember that dog dream IYKWIM

Also why are all the dead people happy. Surely some have been consigned to hell and come back to warn of the consequences of certain behaviours

If it was real, and I have no doubt that it's not, but if it was and some psychic came and found me in the afterlife and said "I have your DD here do you have a message for her?" my message would be "C'mon love, you need to concenrate on the living an not be spending your time and money like this trying to contact the dead, stop this now, love you! mum."

I have very specific but not very useful dreams. eg: I dreamt I saw a killer whale very close up-next day one was photographed in the Firth of Forth. Then I dreamt that Catherine Cookson has died. Read the paper next morning and there was the news that she had. I had absolutely no prior knowledge of either of these and similar events and they were of no interest at all to me. Was just left wondering.

The only one I've ever heard of was Jacob Marley and he was fictional lol.

I don't know if there are any genuine readers or not but a lot/most are con artists. They fish for information and human nature makes you remember the 'accurate' stuff and forget the inaccuracies.

It's like the people who predict airline disasters. I could say that I had a dream last night. I saw a large white plane with some sort of blue markings flying over water. The I was inside and people were screaming as plane seemed to drop and the oxygen masks were released. The I was floating about the ground and I could see burning wreckage. I don't have to specific about where or when because unfortunately at some point in the future there will be a plane crash. The plane will be white with blue markings. Part of it's flight will have been over the sea and the wreckage will burn. If this happens sooner rather than later I will claim that I foresaw it in a dream. If it doesn't happen within a reasonable time then my dream will be quietly forgotten.

Yes. Why bother going to all that trouble for £20? My suspicion is that there are indeed some extremely good and genuine mediums around but they are very rare. Others may benefit from the reputations of these genuine people. Being human, there will be some 'at it' for entertainment or financial purposes but also some would be mediums who do their best or really believe they're any good.

In that case, perhaps he really did have some psychic powers.

Rosesared The information I have just shared on here is mostly things that are very personal to me, I have only written them because this is an anonymous forum. I am usually quite a private person and haven't discussed them even with close friends (my husbands affair etc) . I can't pretend to know what the answer is but apart from the house I am now living in ,
it all took place sometime ago in another part of the country before we moved here,so there is no one else that could have given him the information. Also it seems an lot of hard work for the £20 that I paid him! As I said I don't know the answers so for now I will keep an open mind.

It may not be difficult to get the address either.A lot of info is now 'out there' with the internet.Did a friend encourage you to go Rosina? If so, he may have got info from her, even if she didn't mean to get it.He could have looked up records of deaths of your Surname.There are all sorts of crafty ways of finding things out.

Rosina I have mentioned my visit to a clairvoyant sometime ago on gransnet. I had never seen this man before and made my appointment by phone only giving my first name. He opened the conversation by saying "your mum tells me that she died in 2002 in a nursing home". (true) and went on to say that she saw that my husband was very supportive to me during her illness (dementia) but was sad to see that after her death that support was withdrawn when he had an affair.He also had a message from my father saying that he had little to do with my upbringing when I was a child and when I passed to the other side we would talk to me about it. (You can imagine that made me go cold). There was also a message from my mother-in-law saying she understood why I didn't visit her much before she died and indicated that she died of cancer of the brain. He described the house that I live in extremely accurately and commented about a difficult friendship. All of this was absolutely true. He did all the talking so I gave him no clues. I can't think of any other way he could have got so much right. For a start, how did he know my mother had died. She could have been waiting for me outside. I am young enough to have a mother who is still alive. It was on my mind for months afterwards and I will certainly not be visiting him again.

The woman did talk about other matters directly relating to my life - such as that my husband would retire very soon and it would be better for him. This hadn't been on the agenda at all, but happened within the year. She also asked 'Who is **?' The name meant nothing to me, but within six months my daughter had met and subsequently married a man of that name. She described my Mother's appearance and personality accurately; all in all it left this sceptical person a little shaken. All coincidence perhaps?

I read somewhere that when stopped by a Gypsy palm reader in the street the writer offered to read the Gypsy's palm. She told her that she was hardworking and apart from working she also had to take care of her home which she shared with her husband and children. This was an awful lot to do and she was always tired. Sadly all her hard work was taken for granted by her husband and children.

The Gypsy was convinced that the writer had 'the gift' but when you read it, it fits most working wives and mothers lol.
