We have been fortunate not having any flooding issues here, it has been horrendous in other parts of the country.

N&G how could you possibly mention that word "sue"? She has been loved and cared for so well for 9 out of the 11 years of her life. She had 2 homes apparently during her first 2 years and given the names Caroline and Connie, neither of which I liked. She is now resting on my bed hoping that I will join her soon. I must have my annual shower first.

I'm feeling a bit unsettled as tomorrow is DH'S last day of actual hands on work. He is quite stressed and I can't quite work out what to do to help. I think I'll go shopping!

Kitty I think shopping is the way forward. It takes a while I think to settle into retirement but as it comes to us all - we just have to find a way to make it work. I'm sure once the actual day has passed your DH will find his place again.

The house sale is not moving at all...we had a flurry of viewers but no offers. Dropped the price for the last time and if it doesn't sell by the end of January we shall take it off the market and leave it a year before trying again. We're still being as tidy as we can but also living ...so I'm afraid anyone who comes unexpectedly might find clothes on the airer SHOCK HORROR !!!

Crafting morning for me - and then we are taking the 2 boys and their Mummy to the restaurant at the gym for dinner. We got a voucher as a thank you for our complaint when the boiler went down so we intend to go and make full use of it !!

Life is full of disappointments it seems, but sometimes things may be , if not better at least not worser , if left alone. Thinking of Soop when I write that. The frustration of cancelled appointments and travelling to others takes its toll and is no good to anybody's health. We can waste expend a lot of energy on these buggerations, energy perhaps best conserved for what we can do. We all know that "serenity" prayer

Our friend has died. It was expected. He died, as he'd wished, peacefully at home. The cremation will take place in Glasgow on Friday afternoon. We shall travel to the crematorium with two other close friends.

Nellie I apologise. I've just returned home from a morning's ironing and I'm a tad tired.

The house selling process has to be one of the most frustrating and illogical there is, n&g, can understand the desire to retreat from the market.

If you could send some of your philosophical mood this way I would appreciate it, daphne, the smallest thing is hugely irritating at the moment. If it wasn't a distant memory I would say it was PMT! . Will summon up some patience from somewhere for grandparent duties later.

Soop, so sorry about the death of your friend.

Thank you for your kind messages. We've also the elderly friend's funeral to attend in the village on Saturday. Mary, the lady who has lived in the village forever, was at another funeral recently. I may have told you that the undertaker greeted her with...Hello, Mrs P. Haven't seen much of you lately. She replied, Good! she was so frail but determined to soldier on until the end. Flatly refused to go into a hospice. Luckily, she had plenty of local support.

There was a beautiful sunset. I missed it. Hair washing takes an age these days.

We have a very early start tomorrow. It's possible that we'll be home fairly late. We shall need to drop into the supermarket on our way home. No usual Friday trip into Campbeltown. I shall pop into the kitchen Friday morning before we leave for the crematorium. Our pal will be driving.

I wish you all a pleasant evening and trust that you will remain snug. It promises to be a very hard frost (for us) tonight.

DD3'S father in law is on life support now but there is still a chance he will recover - it's the uncertainty that is so wearing for his family.

Slightly worried about the road over the hills — eek, eek! — but MrBags is working at home today so will help me get the rattletrap down the home hill if necessary. Totalling our car six and a half years ago because of ice still comes back to haunt me when we have freezing weather.

Grampy is off out to meet up with old work colleagues this morning and would it be wrong of me to say I'm looking forward to a few hours home alone [laugh]

He worked shifts all his life so I had many days( or nights) where I was home alone and I quite miss that . I seem to be always marching to his drum ( or body clock ) and find myself eating when I'm not hungry because he is, or getting up because he's awake etc.

Anyway, I'm off to lock the door after him ..... it will be touch and go whether I let him back in again!!

Just popping into the kitchen to catch up on all the news. Sorry to hear that the surgeons aren't able to fix your undercarriage problem soop. It's a pity it has taken them so long to come to this conclusion.
Hope you have a great day out with bags and both your journeys aren't too difficult. That's the downside of living somewhere beautiful but remote I guess, but even we had snow in Yorkshire last week and my heart was in my mouth as OH drove us over the moors above Harrogate. I am a back seat driver and really struggle to muffle my gasps of horror. In fact, I am banned from speaking on the car because OH says I distract him.

kitty OH retired about three years before me and used to have my dinner ready when I arrived home , but he had been totally absorbed in his work and didn't really have any hobbies of his own. Consequently, we do tend to do most things together and sometimes I long for a bit of personal space. I feel awful saying this, knowing that people, like my DSis. who has recently lost her lovely husband, would give anything to have their partner still around.

Lovely chatty time with soop. The fog on the way was thick but people seemed to be taking care. The way back was pretty clear. I stopped to do a bit of grocery shopping (and watch the sunset from the shop car park) take the car through a wash, and wait for Minibags who has exams next week so is doing extra after school supported study (i.e. with teachers present to help out).
