Like everyone else I hope your GP records are more complete than at the Truro hospital. I find it hard to accept hospital records cannot be tracked down HOWEVER at one time I worked in an large open office and the next-door department had hired a temp to digitally scan all their paper records onto the computer system. I was not impressed by her attention to detail and mentioned it to her manager. I was basically told to mind my own business and that she was doing a good job but ... The originals were shredded after scanning.

Gaga Have yourselves a very good evening. We like Edward Fox. I've served him in the Lostwithiel (Cornwall) pharmacy in which I worked some years ago. He was very polite. I believe that I may have asked for his autograph. It's on a paper bag in some dusty alcove.

MANY HAPPY RETURS OF THE DAY to MacSporran! Sorry I`m late.
N&G, a few weeks ago, hubby and I made our wills, and as time was of the essence, the solicitor came to the hospital, bringing a colleague as a witness, then another came the following day, with another colleague, for hubby to sign his will. The bill for this, for 2 wills, including car parking charges at the hospital, and VAT, was £230 and a few pence.

I was under the impression that our notes were kept in some shape or form for as long as we are on this planet. After we shuffle off this mortal earth I am not sure how long by law they have to be kept. I have been looking but no joy.

You do have a right to access your notes but you have to email or put it in writing. This I read was specifically for your GP notes but I do not see why it should not cover hospital notes, private or otherwise. I have been trawling through "patients medical records" for this information.

Delighted to hear that you both had a lovely lunch- Rory would have enjoyed the peace. Love the photos of you both.

We are having a treat this evening. We are going to Chichester Festival Theatre to see Edward Fox in "Sand in the Sandwiches" which is a one-man play about John Betjeman. We are going to eat in the on-site Brasserie before the performance and I feel thoroughly spoiled by Mr Gaga whose idea this was.

Hope you manage to trace your 2003 medical records soop. Seems daft to me that they can't trace them!

bags At one time, long ago, I worked for the Executive Council in Plymouth. It was our job to take care off all patients records when a patient changed doctors/had a complaint and suchlike. That was in the days of clerical workers. All hand written. It seemed to work well enough in them days!

We've enjoyed the perfect lunchtime treat. Cosy, clean, relaxing restaurant and super home-cooked food. We had a glass of wine and finished with a lovely pot of coffee. Simple but perfect in every sense.

MacS Still doesn't know that I shared that photo of him wearing a sporran (little else)...Oh, for goodness sake, don't ever let on.

He loves all the messages from you lot. Yes, wouldn't it be lovely if we could all share this afternoon in front of the fire. Mind you, his head is beginning to nod. Rory's too.

NanaandGrampy I've said it before...your crafting is superb. The poorly little boy will be over the moon to receive so many good wishes.
We also need to update our wills. Pretty straightforward. I do enjoy bequeathing personal treasures to those we love. They'll possibly take the lot to the local charity shop. Someone at sometime may benefit from the stuff I've squirreled away.

My real problem with the missing record kicked off in earnest about two weeks ago. My GP had been sent a two page detailed letter from the surgeon in Glasgow. A copy was forwarded to me. Early in December I have the (possibly final) consultation with the "undercarriage experts" in Glasgow. I shall then learn whether or not I'm to have more corrective surgery. In the long letter the surgeon mentions that he's been unable to access the file/record of my 2003 stay in the private hospital in Truro. We were preparing to move from Cornwall to Scotland in the summer of that year. Had I stayed on the NHS waiting list, the surgery would have coincided with the busiest period of upheaval as we packed our possessions. As it happened, I was happy to see a lady surgeon who could deal with my complaint almost immediately. The surgery didn't go 100% according to plan. I was not given an enema prior to surgery. After the op I developed wicked abdominal pain. The rest of my stay in hospital was spent rushing to the bathroom as a result of large doses of laxatives. Hence the damage done to the bathroom taps...
Hey ho! I survived. I went home and got on with life (as you do.) I've been emailing the secretary of the private hospital for about a week. She has tried to be as helpful as she can. She gave me the NHS number to ring. After many unsuccessful attempts the lady returned my call. She looked on line at many sites and couldn't find a record. Today, the secretary at the private hospital emailed me to say that she's sorry that I've been so concerned. Records at the hospital do not go back that far. The lady surgeon is on leave until Wednesday. She will talk to her, in person, once she returns.

Our GP practice is closed this afternoon. I shall call in tomorrow on our way to Campbeltown.

I was very distressed yesterday. To have our virtual kitchen door open for letting off steam was invaluable. I hope that any one of us who needs a comforting word can find it here. For ALL of you... and

Not every solicitor unfortunately is taking part. I am going down the same route at present and the firm I chose are not part of it, trust my luck.

soop somebody must have referred you to that consultant in 2003. I winder if your notes would appear miraculously if you were suing them?!!!

I think if you do not get any joy, see your GP and ask him if he could write a letter- he must know the reason why your new consultant needs to know about past surgery. us lot have not given up.

Oh dear, I think try Bag's good suggestion as your GP will have a record on his computer and the receptionist at the front desk should be able to find it easily I would have thought.

You were a private patient so I do not understand why your notes would have been sent to an NHS hospital. At the very least your GP would have received a letter stating the outcome of your surgery.

I am assuming that your GP surgery is computerised but even so paperwork/notes is kept somewhere within the building.

I do not believe the private secretary, your notes have to be somewhere. I doubt if she has bothered to look.

Thank you for all supportive messages. The secretary of the lady surgeon in the private hospital has already said that there are no notes. I was resident for 6 days. I was asked to contact the NHS hospital in case the notes had been transferred. Spoke to a very helpful lady who said that the records were def not with them.

My mobile has run out of cash. Tried to thank bags for her birthday message to MacS...zilch! I'm glad the teapot arrived safely.

We need to sort ourselves out in order to go out for birthday boy's treat. I haven't had time to read all your messages. Family have been phoning ever since breakfast time in order to wish happy birthday.

Another cold, frosty day. Tara and I were lying in bed, she asleep, me watching the news on my lovely new TV. Much as I would like to I really cannot spend all day in bed doing zilch.

N&G that was a con man who visited you! I asked my solicitor if I would have to pay extra if my will was complete and friends of mine who are willing to take in Tara if I pop my clogs move house. The answer was no, I only had to give the new address, no problem it would appear.

Brrr its a bit chilly here this morning !!

Charley we just had someone come to the house to write a new will for us and I was horrified to find they quoted £690 each for Lasting Power of Attorney! Seemed like a huge con to me and I would have kicked ejected the man at that stage ! But we're far too polite. He also told us we would need a brand new will when we change address which I find hard to believe so might have to do some research on that one !

Corner I know but you sooo want them to struggle through when they have a talent . Sadly , we cant do it for them but I keep trying

I did laugh at your parents evening comment Kitty . Its funny how the little horrors become angels at that age in school.

Finished my crafting yesterday and hopefully the poorly little boy will enjoy the cards that are flooding in. Made a pair of matching tree ornaments for young friends of ours who have a gingerbread theme going on .

Today I have the luxury of some crafting time till we take the two little boys swimming .

I'm not sure how medical records work but would your NHS GP not have made a record of your surgery being done in 2003, soop, even though you went to a private hospital? Had your GP referred you for undercarriage investigations when the problem first arose?

Don't let them get you down, soop. There will be a way to get the information you need, charleygirl seems a first class sleuth. It must have come as such a shock that there were no records at the hospital. It's logical that the consultant has charge of the medical records and can clarify for you.

My medical claim to fame (in a private hospital) was cutting a finger very deeply while doing a self-shave (remember those?). The poor nurse nearly fainted when she came back to see me covered in blood where I had tried and failed to stem the flow. The worst bit was explaining to the health and safety person what had happened . Never seen so many forms. Fortunately the consultant surgeon thought it funny.

Everyone is rooting for you. The power of joint thinking will prevail. Relax and enjoy the lunch tomorrow if you can. . . Just wish I could send you some real ones.
