I'm jealous I've never had one. My SIL often has one, usually something he doesn't like!

I've had "sighing softly to the river" from The Pirates of Penzance in my head for the past few days. I wouldn't mind, but it's sung by Major General Porter. Why? I have no idea. I don't even know where it came from, I haven't heard it for ages.

I have had one for a couple of days - "Witchcraft" (?those fingers in my hair, that old come hither stare....)! Don't know where it came from as I haven't heard it for a long time, but I can't get rid of it now!!

LullyDully Chestnuts roasting on an open fire is one of the better ones. I cannot stand that inane "Driving home for Christmas" Or Jingle bells.

They drive me mad , especially at Christmas when that dreadful music starts in the shops soon. Chestnuts Roasting etc.

What also drives me potty is forgetting the name of a famous person I have known most of my life. It drives me crazy as I trawl through the alphabet. Couldn't get to sleep until I remembered the name of the actor in that antique programme...not Tim Whatshisname, Ian McShane!!!!!!

Anya Thank you! I have got that one as well now. "When a felons not engaged in his employment".
What does not help is that I have just finished watching a ENO production of The Mikado OH recorded, so I was geared up for G&S.

Blimey right on cue phoenix my particular ear worm begins........ "One I was seven years old....." It's driving me bonkers. The DGC love it and have developed a kind of family dance routine , involving gymnastic ballet / Spanish thingy for the girls and a kind of street dance come American rap from DGS (6) confused . They practice it non stop and the song is driving me round the bend.

I run a singing group and can never sleep afterwards as the last song we have learned goes round and round in my head.

Every time I see a particular mobile phone advert I have 'Boum' in my head for hours with fond memories of my father's hilarious Charles Trenet impersonations.

Yes, currently the Policeman's Song from Pirates of Penzance is stopping me from dropping off to sleep.I was singing it in the kitchen yesterday and GS3 asked why I was singing about 'policeman snot' hmm

Note to self .... enunciate more clearly!

ninathenana Sat 22-Oct-16 22:04:05

Yes, I have them too. As you say phoenix often with no obvious prompt. Nothing for a while though

I often get earworms, drive me bonkers.

phoenix Sat 22-Oct-16 21:55:05

You know that thing when you get song stuck in your head for no apparent reason?

Today (heaven knows why) it's "Goody Two Shoes" , Adam and the Ants confused

Sometimes I can understand what has prompted the ear worm, maybe a phrase heard in conversation etc, but ?????

Anyone else ?
