I have one too. Because my garden is on a steep hill he isn't sure which way is up so has built long burrows just below the surface of the lawn across the slope. A friend has told me to insert canes with upturned plastic bottles which apparently will make a noise in the wind and scare moles away. We shall see!

My mother phoned me late one night to say that dad was sitting in a deck chair, in the garden, in the dark, with a spade, waiting for the mole. He on;y needed the shotgun.

Reading a book about the species sapiens - now there is a destructive species and a danger to every other species on the planet

We've lived here for five years and this year and there is a lot of green landscaping on our estate which this year has been covered in mole hills. Never seen them before. Also on some of our Peak District walks, when you can always expect to see a few, they have been much more in evidence so maybe this is the year of the mole! There was a small dead one in the lane at the back of our house where it borders some fields. It was the first one I've seen "in the flesh".

We've had moles. They've generally buggered off of their own accord. Gotta be tough to live on the Boggy Brae

One of my cats once brought in a dead mole, completely unmarked and looking as if it was just having a nap. I took it out and buried it, while cat danced an indignant jig around me. He thought it was a nice present and it certainly was a pleasant change from dismembered shrews. I am too attached to The Wind in the Willows to feel hostile to moles!

An old country neighbour told me that Moles work up hill, which is not much help to me as I live on top of a hill. We always seem to get tunnels and mole hills at this time of year, but they usually disappear again over the winter.

My cats have caught them mid summer when the young run overground to start their independent life.

Am reluctant to do them harm, so tend to just cope with damage.

I remember walking in the Peak District with my dad when I was young and seeing dead moles hanging on barbed wire fencing - lots of them. I expect farmers used to do it but goodness knows why. I always thought it was horrible. You certainly don't see it now - not for years.

Well I now do not have a garden....Moley has trashed it....lawn.flowerbeds....all ruined...and so loved my garden?

Don't bother with one of those mole 'spike' scarer thingies - we tried one and the mole pushed it out of the ground!

30 odd years ago, the last time we lived in a house with a garden, we were outside one sunny afternoon and the lawn started to move up and down! Our neighbour said "it`ll be a mole", I was pleased, we`re not gardeners, couldn't have cared less about the state of the lawn, but I`d never seen a mole. Bonnie and Trixie, our cats at the time, were following the undulating bits of lawn around, keenly listening and watching. The following morning, sadly, there was a beautiful, but dead, mole outside the back door. And I`ve never seen another one.

I heard on the radio last week (or the week before) that moles are afraid of badgers, so putting badger poo down the holes into their tunnels will keep them away. If you can't get any badger poo, ferret poo was the next best thing.

Personally, as someone who grows my own fruit and veg, i've had to resort to more drastic measures in the past - either that or pack up and resort to shop-bought produce! My garden isn't huge, but I got rid of 18 moles in one summer, two or three years ago. Not nice, but it had to be done ?

Well the devastation to my garden now.which I loved.makes me weepy!! Tried allsorts now and nothing has worked! more annoying as we have a wooden ranch style fence with bloody farmland on the other side......untouched by moles!!!?
