I've just come home to find two items of post have arrived addressed to me, both from charities. In one (from The Cats Protection League) accompanying the letter asking for a donation were: a pen, a notebook, a holographic bookmark, three cards with envelopes, a pre-paid envelope in which to return the completed donation form and a small leaflet - oh and a half page with stickers/gift labels. How on earth can they make enough money to aid animals when they are spending so much on sending everyone this nonsense, most of which I have no doubt ends up in rubbish bins. It just makes me angry. In the past I've cancelled my direct debit to one well known children's charity which kept bombarding me with similar stuff asking me to increase the amount I donated and which was sending out cheap gifts to all and sundry (and rewarding their chief executive with a huge salary).

Agree Rosie.
I'm selective about the charities I support. My favourite is Crisis, they don't bombard you with stuff and just get on with helping people.

Couldn't agree more - it is a complete pain and puts off so many people from contributing.

The worst ones are the charities that send you a book of raffle tickets to buy or sell! Ive has a couple of charities sending free xmas cards, coasters etc.
I only donate to my local hospice not to any other charity.

Rosieroe I also have had my Paws letter from the CPL but I was lucky, maybe they had run out of gifts because thankfully I received zilch. Yes, they were asking for extra money but in a pleasant manner. They receive one donation from me when I pay my annual fee to remain a member.

I got the same packet as you Rose and yes it annoys me too why spend that money on these nonsense gifts when the money could go to the charity itself

Agreed. I'm fed up with all these packets arriving on the doormat at this time of year, ie getting on for Christmas. It annoys me even more that I have to open them up to check our name/address etc is not hidden inside before I put the whole lot in the bin. It's all a waste of money - particularly the ones containing 'gifts' -and just puts my back up. When will these charities learn?
