My grandson prefers daddy to mummy.

I'm really worried about my daughter. She is being rejected by her little boy. He is 1 year old and for some time he only wants daddy. When daddy is at work little grandson is fine but the minute daddy comes home he completely rejects his mummy. Consequently she is feeling terrible. I know that this can happen. I've read some forums and is is quite common but I don't know how to help her. She feels like putting him into nursery and going back to work full time when the intention was to work 3 days with me looking after him. I'm so worried about her as she has not been great about going back to work, but needs must. She had a difficult pregnancy but loved her little boy on site and is a brilliant mummy. Any one got any ideas what I can do to help her.

Whilst it must be very upsetting I don't think a one year old consciously chisels one parent over the other.
He's clearly absolutely fine with her during the day so I don't think there's anything to worry about. Certainly my DGS becomes his daddy's biggest fan as soon as he comes through the door but my DDIL wouldn't see that as a rejection.
Perhaps your DD is generally not looking forward to returning to work, is she tired (natural with a 1 year old!) or even slightly depressed?

When our elder daughter was two , any visitors to the house she would point at our wedding photograph and declare that's my Daddy , even if he was in the house . It was amusing. I think your daughter needs to speak to a health visitor or GP, post natal depression floored me when our second daughter was nine months old, it had niggled away for months and I just kept quiet about it.
