Welcome Shamna don't forget to look in on your local page from time to time and if there is no local editor why not consider becoming one?

Oh and wait till half-term when someone's DGC will be having trouble with their plimsolls <yawn>

janeainsworth Mon 03-Oct-16 08:08:26

Shanma sometimes threads/posts are deleted because someone has tried to spam the site. Wait until one day you get up and there are 5 different threads from someone trying to advertise their wonder product which will defy the ageing process, or something similar.
Don't rush to judgment.

Well nanatobe (congratulations and welcome, by the way), all I can say is to keep in mind the advice I had when training as a teacher many years ago: 'the most important thing to remember is that when you go into a staffroom for the first time, don't sit down until everyone else has, otherwise you could be sitting in someone's favourite chair.'. In other words, it is very easy to upset posters on here by transgressing unwritten behavioural rules and then you will get a combined unexpected attack. One of the first posts I made involved the lighthearted use of the word 'flouncing', which was often used in a teasing way on other sites I belonged to - the person I used it about said that she had never been so insulted, others said that it was the nastiest comment they had ever seen!

I also have recently joined GN, my first GC due December (very excited) But I've been reading some of the threads and am getting to find my way around. I think I may get hooked! However, I'm just curious why someone shouldn't post a viewpoint as they havent been on here very long?

You will also find some quite brusque comments Shanma, generally from those who regard themselves as "Elder Statespersons" !

Welcome to GN Shanma

I think you will find a real mixed bag of deletions, narkey comments, funny threads, useful ones, especially on health and diet. The whole of life passes through this social platform.

Quite, merlot!

whitewave Mon 03-Oct-16 06:21:29

I do agree we are all adults. But of course if that is the case then we should behave like adults and avoid unkind, snide, mocking or cutting posts.
As merlot said watch and see - smile

You're right....You haven't been here long. hmm

Wait and see before you pronounce judgement.

I just feel the need to say that I have not been here long, perhaps a week, and I am stunned by the amount of posts, and today an entire thread being deleted. Is this how it is all the time, or have I arrived when things are going through a particularly bad patch?

I can't understand the deletions at all to be honest. \if something is nasty, or abusive then I think it may be better if GNHQ banned the person, but please leave the thread/post or whatever for us to decide for ourselves. we are adults. I for one will not be reaching for the smelling salts if I see something a bit nasty. I will simply either add my two penneth or move onto another thread. How do you all feel about this?
