Deletions on Gransnet

(89 Posts)

I just feel the need to say that I have not been here long, perhaps a week, and I am stunned by the amount of posts, and today an entire thread being deleted. Is this how it is all the time, or have I arrived when things are going through a particularly bad patch?

I can't understand the deletions at all to be honest. \if something is nasty, or abusive then I think it may be better if GNHQ banned the person, but please leave the thread/post or whatever for us to decide for ourselves. we are adults. I for one will not be reaching for the smelling salts if I see something a bit nasty. I will simply either add my two penneth or move onto another thread. How do you all feel about this?

Bugger me!!

Jalima Mon 03-Oct-16 20:53:29

I think you can say 'oh, bugger' 'that's a bugger' etc, but not call someone a bugger, even if they are behaving badly,*wot*, which is a personal insult.
A fine distinction
Not that I ever swear anyway

lol

Oh Crikey!! B_gger now put the u in. (Or I'll have to put the whole word again and get deleted)

Jalima Mon 03-Oct-16 20:48:40

Biggur?

wot Mon 03-Oct-16 20:47:59

It was deigned a personal insult by GNHQ. I was mortified. The target was a nasty wotsit though.

wot Mon 03-Oct-16 20:45:53

Put the "u" in! ?

BBbevan Mon 03-Oct-16 20:43:12

A bigger what? wot

wot Mon 03-Oct-16 19:57:21

I've been deleted for calling someone a b.gger?

Also banning a person for making a one-off nasty or abusive comment seems a bit harsh. We all 'run off at the mouth' sometimes, don't we? I know I do.

Retrolady Mon 03-Oct-16 18:49:08

I think it's important to remember that because Gransnet sort of comes into people's homes, anything which is said can assume greater importance than if it was said in the big wide world outside. It's a bit like telly in that respect, I think.

I do think that we need to be careful. We don't know other people's situations and seemingly harmless comments can hurt.

I thought rules were made to be broken? That's what I learnt at school anyway!

Wobblybits Mon 03-Oct-16 17:31:07

Has anyone hear from Jing ?

merlotgran Mon 03-Oct-16 17:15:06

With jingl gone that report button must be going rusty through lack of use. hmm

The problem with posts is that they are rarely read as they were written or even written as they are meant to be read. Perhaps we don't say what we mean to say or mean what it says although perhaps you thought it did and I didn't! confused. hmm

The emojis are useful but not comprehensive. The acronyms can be most inventive.

Nuff said? grin

A little later on I shall pour myself a glass of wineand study this important information.

I must admit I still miss Jinglebells who has been banished from GN. I wonder if they will ever let her back.
