Well said bags and * merlot*. It's a form of bullying to keep reporting people for supposed slights. And where are the culprits now? Hq seem to delete as a reaction rather than keeping an overview and making up their own minds which plays into the hands of the bullies.

Obie people can certainly be held accountable for their actions, but they can think what they like.
That is nothing to do with saying an idea, rather than a person, is rubbish.
To give you an example, you might suggest that all Gransnetters should mark the winter solstice by going for a swim in the sea.
I might say what a rubbish idea.
I'm criticising your idea, not you as a person.
You though, are still entitled to your opinion that it's a good idea, and you're equally entitled to go for a swim on December 21st.
Should you get into difficulties because of your action in going in the sea on a very cold day and need to be rescued, others might hold you to account to explain why you took the action you did.
And I'm entitled to think you're bonkers grin

I think that you are agreeing with my points thatbags I try not to make things personal nor to take things personally.

I agree obione with the fact that core values/beliefs are a part of what makes me me and if someone I cared about in RL argued against them I might get really angry/upset. However on an online forum , where I have no real personal connection to posters, I find I have been able to take a deep breath and distance myself from comments that have been aimed more personally at me rather than my opinions. I know that some people will find that harder to do and get upset or others get huffy and defensive.
Without the addition of body language/tone of voice it is more difficult to get nuances in some posts.

Person A has an offensive idea.
Person A says the offensive idea on the internet.

Person B is perfectly at liberty to think what they will of person A are they not, based on the offensive idea?

janeainsworth Thu 29-Sept-16 16:31:09

Person B is entitled to think what they like about Person A, but they would be wrong to attack Person A on the forum. The right thing to do would be to explain why they thought Person A's idea was offensive.
Person B knows nothing about Person A, other than that they have posted an idea which person B finds offensive.
Persons C and D may not find the idea offensive st all.

merlotgran Thu 29-Sept-16 16:49:31

Obieone May I jog your memory?

Person A says something on a thread that Person B objects to. Rather than voice an opinion, Person B then involves Person C hoping that Person C will contact person A on Person B's behalf and influence Person A's future postings.

Person C refused.

Ring any bells? hmm

Maggiemaybe Thu 29-Sept-16 17:00:45

Gosh, this is intriguing! grin

Maggiemaybe Thu 29-Sept-16 17:01:12

And a wee bit confusing....

DaphneBroon Thu 29-Sept-16 17:01:49

May I just add that everybody is assuming this is a result of somebody reporting a post. Is it possible that GNHQ arrived at a conclusion themselves (see OP)?
In any case reverting to my Chinese Whispers observation , speculation is futile unless the facts are made public. To *ASSUME" is said to "make an ASS of U and ME"

DaphneBroon Thu 29-Sept-16 17:03:00

Sorry, I meant the Original Post on the "other thread" -oh dear, that makes this a thread about a thread [hnn]

Alima Thu 29-Sept-16 17:03:55

I know, I've got a headache now! Teach me to read a post addressed to someone else.

soop Thu 29-Sept-16 17:04:03

As I usually stay in the kitchen (I know my place)wink I have no idea why it is that jings has been barred, or whatever.
Jings and I have had our moments. However, whenever our exchanges have become heated, we've expressed our dismay/misgivings with each other. Exchanged apologies have resolved our differences. It's what "grown-ups" with any sense do. Just saying...

Ana Thu 29-Sept-16 17:04:15

Perhaps some of like speculation, DahneB. You don't have to join in...smile

Ana Thu 29-Sept-16 17:04:33

us

GG22 Thu 29-Sept-16 17:09:49

IMHO it is quite shocking that the police state is alive and well on GN. As uber grown ups isn't it up to us to police ourselves and simply move on when we don't like how a thread is going? Guess we have to sit quietly in our corners as we grow old... and senile....

Anyhoo, happiest of birthday to Jings where'er ye may be. You are missed already. cupcakewineflowers

NanKate Thu 29-Sept-16 17:15:37

What is 'virtue signalling' ?

kittylester Thu 29-Sept-16 17:16:58

soop, exactly!

obieone Thu 29-Sept-16 17:19:16

No merlotgran, no bells are ringing at all. I havent a clue what you are saying.

janeainsworth, agree with first sentence.

Second sentence, dont agree, as some posters "know" each other on gransnet at least for eg 3 years or more. Though they will probably have no idea whether person A is having a bad day or week for example.

Galen Thu 29-Sept-16 17:56:32

Jalima I call her rose because she can be prickly.
She hates it when I do grin

rosesarered Thu 29-Sept-16 17:58:27

Jingl would be very chuffed with this thread as well, but hasn't everyone had enough of it yet?

Luckygirl Thu 29-Sept-16 18:14:05

Persons E and F have collapsed exhausted. grin

petra Thu 29-Sept-16 18:36:19

obieone have you forgotten that jings strongly defended you when she perceived that you were being 'attacked'?
She reported one of my posts recently ( which was deleted) but she had the balls to tell me publicly on here.

obieone Thu 29-Sept-16 18:40:40

No I have not forgotten petra, and very glad of her help I was too as I told her.

Jalima Thu 29-Sept-16 18:48:30

Galen wink

rosesarered don't worry, I expect this thread and this other one will be deleted soon - off into the ether as if it's never been

annsixty Thu 29-Sept-16 19:08:15

We can only hope!!
