I used to go home for lunch as I couldn't stand school dinners - we were forced to eat everything, even if we didn't like it. I remember one of my friends not wanting to eat nasty slimy junket (remember that?) and after sitting there for some time with the teacher saying she wasn't going anywhere until she ate it, she tried eating it and was promptly sick all over the table. When I was about 9 or 10, the bell for lunch went and most of the class hadn't finished their work, so the teacher said we all had to stay there until everyone had finished. I put my hand up and said that I had to leave to catch my bus, otherwise I would get home too late to be able to have lunch and get back to school on time. She refused to let me go, even though I had finished my work so, when she wasn't looking, I got out of the window and ran for my bus. (It was a ground floor classroom with low windows.)I think I missed it and was terribly upset when I got home. My Dad went to the phone box and rang the school and I was allowed to stay home that afternoon as I was so upset. The next day, the headmistress told me never to do it again, but I suspect that the teacher concerned got told off as she didn't do it again and I didn't get into trouble.
Reducing contact because my heart just isn't in it.
