We went out for lunch, took my car since his was in the garage, had to pay to park.
I had a purse full of coins to pay with, which I offered.
No, he insisted on paying with his phone because 'I've got the app - I'm already registered.'

So I stood about while he spent 3 times longer faffing with his phone than it would have taken to stick a few coins in.
Came back 2 1/2 hours later, within paid-for time - or so we thought - to find a traffic warden writing out a ticket.
'But I paid!' said dh, and showed the bloke proof on his screen.
Er...

Well, he WAS registered, only unfortunately he had registered the number plate of HIS car, which was in the garage being fixed, not the number plate of mine.
So we got a ticket. £40 or more, I really don't want to know.

He thinks he will get out of it by an explanatory letter, with proof that his own car was in the garage at the time.
We shall see.
I won't repeat what I said on the way home, though TBH it could have been a lot ruder - all because he insisted on ** apping when coins would not only have been quicker, but saved all this faff.
I expect I'll laugh about it later...

Magsymoo :A good maxim to follow - if you think you'll laugh about it one day, you might as well laugh about it now.

I love that and will keep it in my mind for the next time - you are soooo right. And it might infuriate him even more than me ranting, lol oh lol ahahaha.

Have your parking ticket paid by an app: Park My Fine. You have to watch some adverts & enter a prize draw.it Can take a couple of days but I've always got picked to have my ticket paid. So has my friend, sister & cousin.

Conversation exiting a car park.
OH: This is a tight corner.
Me: You're too close to the bollard. Back up and take it wider.
OH: I'm fine.
Me: You're going to hit the bollard.
OH: Don't be stupid, there's plenty of room.
Me: Stop the car and have a look. You'll hit the bollard.
Large crunch and hundreds of pounds of damage.
Somehow it was my fault because I ought to know by now men can't ever reverse or admit they might be wrong I was putting him off. A full day before he admitted it was his fault and that he has no spatial awareness. He nearly admitted the other day that I'm a better driver. He may not have said those exact words but I treasure the moment!

Forgot to mention that DH will always park in the most inconvenient places as long as he doesn't have to pay. my attitude is always I don't care how much it is as long as it's close. Obviously the arguments are endless.

Deedaa Fri 23-Sept-16 22:33:08

We were nearly late for MIL's funeral. I was driving and set of intending to take a right turn about a mile down the road. "No no" says DH when we reach the right turn. He assured me that he had often followed hearses and they all went straight on, so there must be a more direct way. So we went straight on, and on, and on. By the time he admitted he was wrong we were left with a mad rush back to the crematorium instead of the leisurely chat with the rest of the family before we went in.

Carm down its an easy mistake to make my daughter did the same thing as your DH.
My daughter telephoned the council and explained and they cancelled the ticket.
There a lot more things in the world to get cross about than a parking ticket.

Ooh the dreaded Mrs Satnav. When we tow the caravan I have satellite screen shots of the main junctions on my iPad, my mobile with the route on it so I know exactly where we are and the current AA road Atlas. That way I know exactly where we are and can argue with Mrs S with authority. When we have a caravan following three foot behind us it's the one occasion when I rule!

Battersea1971 Fri 23-Sept-16 20:22:49

Oh no!! But easily done I suppose. He's not entirely to blame as you didn't realise either?

I once bought a very expensive London Pay and Display parking ticket and simply forgot to put it in the car window so the warden could see it. Fortunately they let me off when I sent them a copy.
My DH does pull over and ask for directions but then either ignores them or assumes that they meant left when they said right and vice versa. He also ignores the satnav lady who often actually knows the way better than he does. I suspect that half satnav problems are due to not updating the maps - if there is a new road layout or junction change the maps are simply out of date. There was a change of direction in one local street last year and trucks still try to drive through the No Entry sign - "My satnav says I can go down here" is a typical response when they are face to face with a line of traffic going the right way.
On the subject of coins, I do like to get rid of my change every now and again, usually into the supermarket self checkouts. Himself however prefers to cart a pocketful of shrapnel about with him for ever. If he puts his hand in his pocket he can only take half of it out at once.

Someone please explain to me what it is about Men and the fact that when it comes to direction, they ALWAYS know best even when they get lost?
Am I the only one whose Partner absolutely refuses to pull over to ask directions from a passer by, preferring instead to drive around aimlessly?
It drives me twitty?.

A good maxim to follow - if you think you'll laugh about it one day, you might as well laugh about it now.

Sheilasue Fri 23-Sept-16 16:45:12

Had to laugh at that.

Talking of parking Mr LD will not pay to park.however small the amount. He will.then drive round and round wasting petrol util he finds a spot to squeeze into. It drives me mad, especially if he does have to pay the 50p.in the end. grrrrr.

diamondwhite Fri 23-Sept-16 16:14:40

Well the downside is that you have a parking ticket. The upside is that you have a husband who was only trying to help in the way that men do. It might not be the way that we would do it. If you are not successful with your appeal, just put it down to experience and insist on using coins next time.

EmilyHarburn Fri 23-Sept-16 16:05:27

I think the CAB advice guide tells you how to write a letter to get off the parking.

There is also a .gov.uk section on parking

www.gov.uk/parking-tickets/paying-a-ticket

I had a ticket that fell off the window onto the floor and so did not appear to be there. I found it and scanned it and sent it off. No fine!!

Lyneve Fri 23-Sept-16 16:01:10

I had a similar experience with my grandsons, aged 9 and 12. In Tesco's they said "Don't queue up to pay" for the five items we'd bought for tea. We'll do the "self swipe ' It's much quicker!

So we did and with their help it took ten to fifteen minutes!! You won't be surprised that my husband had arrived at their house before us even though he'd left the model railway event ten minutes after us!!

Oh to be helpful with modern gadgets.
( I didn't say a word. I just smiled and still am. )

SusieB50 Fri 23-Sept-16 15:25:57

B men ! My OH managed to reverse into a post in a supermarket car park last week . He insisted in parking in this particular place that was nearer the entry. I kept saying there is a bigger space over there you can just drive into ... No the pigheaded man just said "I'm driving this car". I was the problem apparently when he crashed . We now have a large dent in the rear bumper .

NanaRayna Fri 23-Sept-16 15:12:10

I've had no end of 'interesting' trips following the nag-in-the-box (satnav to you) but recently discovered our TomTom satnav gives the option to choose either the quickest or the shortest route from A to B. Have sometimes found that choosing the short way is actually quicker because of traffic conditions.
Just a mention in case you have the same options on you machine [smile}

Alice16 Fri 23-Sept-16 14:12:03

On my lap, not map. See how confusing it all is.

Alice16 Fri 23-Sept-16 14:10:59

Don't get me started on the GPS lady! The last journey saw my DH arguing with her while insisting that I had the route on my phone, plus a good old-fashioned road atlas on my map, my distance glasses on my head and reading glasses on my nose! And still he insisted his route was best. . .

granjura Fri 23-Sept-16 13:11:05

obione I agree - and wouldn't bother to appeal, but just make sure it doesn't happen again. The Ap is for one specific car only- that is very clear from the start.

Just had a wonderful 2.5 weeks in Italy- but lost my temper twice with OH - but because of that bl****y woman, eg the GPS woman. He insists on putting GPS on- and then when we get to a junction and she clearly is sending us up the garden path on a huge detour- he then says 'so what shall I do now' ... to which I have no answer as I have not prepared the route and haven't got the map to hand as I always used to. We twice lost about 20 to 30 mins, having to come off Motorway, pay, find a place to turn, take new ticket, etc, etc.

I now still plan the route and ensure I always have the map handy so I am prepared and can take the correct route when she tries to send us into some ditch or other ;)!

Irma Fri 23-Sept-16 12:53:58

Sounds familiar! My DH does act superior sometimes, I bdon't know why he bothers wink

Zorro21 Fri 23-Sept-16 12:30:19

Witzend - what you could do is try and appeal this, as your husband obviously had the intention to pay and might be able to prove that. Depends really on how favourably the Police or Car Parking Dept of Council, or whoever runs it (Phone number or address should be on the ticket) view your case. I'd cancel it if I were them, and they do sometimes. It is only they who could do it so worth getting in touch with them to explain the mistake.
