Oh! the yellow troosers!

As a Sassenach I thought trews was only used for tartan trousers

Yorkshire and Lancashire tykes like me use both words as well as breeches, trousers, trews and leggins (which last are not the same as leggings).

I used to refer to Minibags's riding breeks, but the Dundonian grandfather of my first husband talked about his wedd'n troosers, which he was very proud to tell anyone who'd listen, still fitted him when he was a grandfather.

Should they not have an internal hula hoop like real clown trousers? Note, being Scottish, I'd wear breeks rather than troosers.

treebee, yes! Pocketses! Yes! Many's the time when it's the pocketses of a garment that have been the ultimate decider for me. I remember a time when I was shopping for a dress with my mum. I was trying one on and found the pockets. "Oh, pockets!" I said. Mum turned to the shop assistant and said, "Sold!"

I've been thinking the shoulder straps would slip off too, oldgoat, but I guess you could cross the straps over at the back.

They look lovely! But I would rather just have the baggy troosers, from the waist, without the straps.
I've got a pattern for flared trousers which I've made several times. Cotton or viscose for summer, and needlecord for winter.

Lovely colour, but I'm sure the straps would slip off my shoulders and they'd finish up round my ankles.

Not for me. Yes when I was a skinny 20 or 30 something, but now I'd just look as though I'd escaped from a secure unit.
