What do your birthday presents say about you?

I'm with you gilly, down and fed up at the moment. Birthdays come and go, can't recall when I last had a gift with thought behind it and that hurts. Pleased that others have gifts that are personal. So, what do the gifts say about me? That I'm of little importance I guess. Seriously, I am happy for others, just down at the moment. Keep posting everyone, I may view things differently soon.

Book Tokens, we needed a new laptop around the time of my last BD so we decided to buy that. Lovely scarf from my neighbour, Son usually gets me something to do with world of warcraft, either a new expansion if one out at that time, or a mouse mat or mug or whatever.

So I am a cross between a bookworm and a gamer and a cold soul who needs to wrap up well in a scarf

My 70th is almost here and this is what I am getting (they asked me what I wanted)

Two silk pillowcases - I like luxury items once every 70 years
A delicate bracelet with tiny amethysts and makerzite from DH - I like jewellery
No doubt a book - love reading
A week's hols in UK with DH - don't like flying

I am very grateful to my lovely family and if I had nothing but there company that would be fine by me.

I usually get jewellery,books,chocolate,whisky and things to keep me warm as I feel the cold so much.Not sure what that says about me.I would love a bubble machine for my mobility scooter!Do you know where I can get one?

oznan, are you in the UK? Iwantoneofthose.com were selling small, lightweight ones that could be attached to things with a bit of ingenuity (and sugru), I bought both daughters one as a stocking filler

We have a £20 max rule for most occasions, leads to some interesting gifts - often lizard related for me, along with book tokens, I am entirely happy to lie in the sun with a book

I always tell my daugher not to spend her hard earned money on me when she is starting out in life and buying a house. However, she always goes over the top. Last year she bought me a gorgeous Radley handbag with a tag stamped with my initials. Bless, them, I don't know what I did to deserve my children. My boy bought me a gift boxed bottle of Taittinger. I don't know what it says about me. I guess they think I'm a blingey old bat!

DH buys chocs and a surprise day out/holiday. I buy myself new clothes/shoes. I'm not a clothes shopper normally but my birthday is at the beginning of September and I see this as the start of a new year (something to do with new school uniform?). Other than that I really don't want need anything but everyone knows I love flowers and I'm very happy to receive those.

Every ones knows we love CASH, you can do such a lot with it

I hate CASH. If I want to buy something I do, but I love getting something that someone has thought about just for me however small.

Yes I wondered that too gillybob. I always try to fit the gift to the recipient but others don't think so much I find. This year we had a big lunch for our 70th and asked everyone for donations to a dog rescue charity. Find I have so much ' stuff ' now I really don't want any more. Family sent books, chocs and flowers so that suited me entirely

On my 60th birthday when I was happily divorced and getting used to living on my own my daughter organised a surprise party and invited old friends and workmates. Plenty of lovely gifts, but my heart sank when I opened one to discover a Teapot for One!! Firstly I hate tea , and secondly, felt very securely " on the shelf"!!

70 th at eldest son's house in Seattle. Party for 30 funded and organised by him and his wife. He also funded hotel bill for UK girlfriends who made the trip

I normally have to go out and buy my own things so done well this year

we don't do adult presents for birthdays in our family. I make a cake for each of the children and the grandchildren, and those under 18 get something small to open. I don't buy cos I cant afford and therefore do not expect back.

Only get presents from DD & her OH, DGS & DM - last Birthday I had cushion from DM "Cat Free Zone" for my settee which I share with my cat (when he leaves room for me!!). Blind for window from DD etc & cat for sitting on my bookshelves from DGS.

Limit ourselves to small presents, for Christmas DD bought me a bookcase - practical presents, DM bought me a rug for my Lounge.

Prefer to receive things I want/need & small fun presents usually from DGS. I moved into a new home 18 months ago & had to downsize so there are always things I want/need.

Late DH used to buy me jewellery & add to my collection of Lilliput Lane Cottages - sadly no longer get wonderful presents from him but many lovely things to cherish

A lightweight lawnmower, I took over DD and SILs' very overgrown garden when I moved here and just love pottering in it, I was really chuffed.

Ah ! I love pressies ....just that as I never get any from anyone (boo hoo !) I ensure I get what I want by buying myself (this year ....meal out (alone), new coat, new shoes, new pink jacket and pussy bow blouse .....just waiting for my bright red spotted mac to turn up ! Bottle of nice perfume ...ayurvedique massage booked up for week after next ...and a crown for my tooth ! (the latter I consider a pressie cos its so expensive, but otherwise essential !)

Last year I even bought a card for me hubby to sign (he did ask who it was for !) He doesn't do birthdays, Christmases, anniversaries, or whatever ....this absolutely guarantees me the pressies I want ! I do buy him pressies, though .......he never appreciates them, but I feel I've done my bit ! So happy birthday me and happy birthday to everyone else like me !
